" WEST BROM V CARDIFF FACTS "

Fri Jan 06, 2012 4:59 pm

Head-to-head

• West Brom have won 21 of 51 competitive matches against Cardiff, who have prevailed on 16 occasions, with 14 finishing level.

• It's five years since Albion beat the Bluebirds, who have won two and drawn three of five league and cup fixtures between September 2007 and the most recent meeting in February 2010.

• Honours are even in the FA Cup. West Brom won a third round tie over two legs in January 1946, and Cardiff triumphed 1-0 at the Hawthorns in a third round replay in January 1950.

West Bromwich Albion

• West Brom have not won, nor scored in their last three Premier League outings, and now engage in one of seven top-flight against Championship encounters in this third round.

• The Baggies won the cup in 1968 for the fifth time in their history.

• Albion have been knocked out by Championship Reading in each of the last two seasons. Twelve months ago they were eliminated at the third round stage for the first time in five years.

Cardiff City

• Cardiff still hold the honour as the only winners of the FA Cup from outside England, achieved in 1927.

• The Bluebirds were also third round victims last season, but have not accounted for a Premier League club since Middlesbrough in the quarter-finals in March 2008, when they went on to lose to Portsmouth in the final at Wembley.

• Malky Mackay's side, who have conceded 299 goals in the FA Cup proper, will be playing Crystal Palace in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-finals on Tuesday.

Team News

West Brom could be without eight first-team regulars against Cardiff City.

Chris Brunt (ankle), Zoltan Gera (knee), Shane Long (back), Steven Reid, Jonas Olsson (calf), Jerome Thomas (groin), James Morrison (hamstring) and Youssouf Mulumbu (groin) are doubtful.

Cardiff may be boosted by the return of Kevin McNaughton after a calf injury.

Craig Conway may have to settle for a place on the bench again alongside fellow midfielder Stephen McPhail and striker Robert Earnshaw.
