West Brom/FA Cup Dilemma

Wed Jan 04, 2012 10:01 am

Whereas I wouldn't want the team to lose the winning mentality Malky has worked magnificiently well to instill into the team, or compromise the culture surrounding the team ethic etc this season, I also think that progression in the FA Cup this season may well serve a negative impact on our league potential considering our Carling Cup involvement.

This is why in my opinion Malky has to utilise the Fa Cup as a tool to engage our fringe players in first team action. I know the faithful support travelling to the Hawthorns this Saturday may not agree with me, however with appreciation of the bigger picture in mind I don't believe Malky has a choice in the matter realistically.

On Saturday I would fully expect the likes of Quinn, Heaton, Gerrard, Blake, Kiss, Conway, Mcphail, Earnie all to start...who players who will still do the shirt justice.

Even if we get through on Saturday and land a bumper home draw, I would still maintain to use the 'squad' players, although theres an additional argument in this respect re pitching our best team against a big Premier League club to see how we get on.

malkay has said there wont be massive changes but a few, yes i think conway earnie kiss heaton blake gerrard and rudy will get starts. but i dont like how people are thinking of not taking the FA cup seriously. its the best domestic cup in the world and not only that it can bring more income in one round than the whole of the league cup will !!

i think we will see a mixture to be honest...

i def think heaton will start, the back 4 of blake , gerrard, hudson, naylor

ralls, mcphail, whitts mason conway

rudy

bench marshall, earnshaw, cowie, taylor. miller, or maybe kiss and gunnarsson in there...

This is the side i would pick:

Heaton, Quinn, Gerrard, Blake, Naylor, Mcfail, Kiss, Cowie, Conway, Gestade & Earnie

Bench. Marshall, Ralls, Mason, Hudson, Gunnarson

Reckon that side would still give West Brom a decent game but i would completely rest Whitts and Miller has we can't afford to get these 2 injured.

Edit: genuinely spent McPhail incorrectly and didn't realise there were 7 subs in the FA Cup so perhaps Taylor and one of our youngsters on the bench maybe?
