My eldest boy loves Karate. He hasn't been doing it for long but he's moved up a couple of belts and he's getting a lot fitter than he was. He's been a couch potato for too long, so it's nice to see him doing something. Not sure if he'll do as well as Regan, though. Time will tell, I suppose.

Regan is in one of the best Clubs in the Country and his Sensai is also the National team Coach. We have world class students at Bargoed. He is pushed and expected to better himself. But give him all the support in the world and get him into competitions. It gives Kids disapline and it teaches them how to look after themselves

Agree with you about Karate, it is great for the kids - in fact, I ought to give it a go, to get rid of my beer belly. My son's got an excellent Sensai in Neath and there's a good sense of community spirit amongst the club members. I'd be quite happy if he stays there for years to come, not just for his fitness but the fact that there are a lot of decent people there.

My best man, Simon O'Brien, has been living in Bristol (ironically) since about 1985 and he's been involved in Karate since he was a kid (he's 47 now). He's got about 150 students, I think, at the moment. The club's called Imperial Karate, if I remember correctly. You may have come across him at tournaments, possibly.

Reeco that is tidy darts mate. But the Karate Union pay for it all. they do fund raising ETC but he is a long long way off that. Last year the Welsh squad competed in Chicago for the europeans where one of our guys got a silver and Bronze in the Katas. And they also competed in Poland for the Europeans
