I'd offer you some advice but I absolutely ballsed up the season when I was playing it having been 1st for 90% of the year, fell down to play offs, lost the play offs and caused the club to go into financial meltdown.

Darwin Quintero. Took until the second half of the season to really get going. Currently scored at least a goal a game and can be signed for £1.4m in my game. Best played I have ever signed on FM. Currently has 31 league goals in 34 appearances in the league and 11 in the cup out of 7 starts. Beast.

Play a narrow 4-1-2-1-2 diamond and focus passing through the middle. Your 2 centre backs set as limited defenders, your 2 full backs set 2 full backs (defend). Your holding midfielder as an anchor man (defend), your 2 centre midfielders as centre midfield (attack), your attacking midfielder as attacking midfield (attack), one of your strikers as an advanced forward and your other striker as a poacher. Also, play with a deepish defensive line and the tempo as the lowest point of normal. Ask your keeper to distribute to one of your centre backs, so he always rolls it out, ensuring you build from the back.

Now the tactics are out of the way, onto the signings. Every signing you make, pay in 48 month installments (you can spend a lot more this way). Marshall and Heaton are both fine, but I suggest you sign a new back four. Get Indridi Sigurdsson (around 140k) for left back, Andre Amougou and Sol Bamba for 1.5 million each as your centre backs and Jordan Spence for 1.5 million for your right back. I got Frimpong on loan as a backup to Gunnarsson for the anchor man role, had Whittingham and Cowie as my centre midfielders and signed Teko Modise for 500k to be my attacking midfielder. Miller as an advanced forward with Earnie as the poacher should work fine, although a better option to Earnie is Augustin Torassa who I signed for 425k, he scored 44 goals in 46 games. Yaya Sanogo is a good squad player who can be brought in for a 100k loan fee, then can be signed on a free in January as his contract expires at the end of the season.

I sold Hudson, Gerrard, McNaughton, Blake, Naylor, Conway, Wildig, Parkin, Gyepes and Keinan to bring these players in, although you don't need to sell all of these if you don't want to, I only sold these all because I had good offers for most of them.

I walked the league with 125 points, winning 40, drawing 5 and losing 1 which was a 1-0 defeat away to West Ham, scoring 139 goals and conceding just 26. :ayatollah:

To be honest I spent forever trying to perfect a successful tactic on FM11 and fortunately, the same tactic seems to work a treat on FM12, I got played reserve teams to get knocked out of the cups early as well to be honest, which helped my league form. :ayatollah:
