Well over the last two years the teams with the best defensive record at the New Year (QPR & NEWCASTLE) have won the League however lat season the 2nd best team (Swansea) were promoted but through the playoffs. The year before the team with the 2nd best defensive record (Swansea) didn't make the playoffs.
In 2008/09 the team with the est Defensive record (WBA) were promoted in 2nd place with the 2nd best defensive record (Cardiff) missing out on theplayoffs.
In 2007/08 The team with the best Defensive record (Plymouth) missed the playoffs, the second best team (Charlton) missed the playoffs but the 3rd best defensive record WBA were promoted Champions.
So a bit of yes and no really Taff, also we are not the best defensive record at present, we are joint 7th.
