" Player ratings v Reading "

If only we could have played like that the last time we played Reading at the CCS  but no looking back as we have so much to look forward to.

Marshall 7 – Little to do really but quick off his line and dealt with everything pretty well.
Taylor 8 – Did a job on Kebe and got forward really well, very impressive today
Turner 8 – big and strong, usual Turner
Hudson 8 – thought he was the better of the CB’s today, top quality performance
Blake 4 – truely awful, the last time I seen a player give the ball away so much was that jack Duffy against Slovakia at the Millenium stadium some years ago. Got beat far to easily on a number of occasions and positions lacklustre. He did have a good last ten minutes but for me it has to be Kev or Quinn for the next game.
Ralls 8 – unlucky not to get on the scoresheet today, lots of energy and a good passer, needs to be a little stronger but that will come with time
Cowie 7 – his best game that ive seen for a while, seemed to offer more going forward than he had in recent weeks.
Witts 8 – exceptional for 40mins today, at fault for the goal but we’ll let him off. His game summed up by him running a mile in the last few minutes to cover at LB
Gunnarrson 8 – What a signing this guy, tackler, passer, scorer, he is everything we lacked last season.
Mason 7 – Can see how he has kept earnie out the team, very good goal and movement, plenty to learn still but great prospect. I hope any loans that may come in don’t push him out.
Miller 8 – took the goal very well and for his age he can half run, his defensive work as impressive as his attacking play.

Rudy 7 – worked hard and chased well, glad to see we didn’t just lump long balls to him.

REF 8 - People wont agree because he didnt do it all by the book but I loved the way he just let the game flow, rarely used his whistle unless needed.

A lot to be proud of today, attacked well and knew how to defend at other times, we could have had a load in the first half and certainly should have had a couple in the second half.
I was surprised how far forward Mason played but it worked very well, all credit to MM today, he got it spot on. Two points off top now :ayatollah:

Bit harsh on Blake imo. He was on the receiving end of some bad passes which meant he got closed down before having full control of the ball, and Cowie wasn't up the wing for him, and he had no easy pass.

good ratings 2blue,i think your being a bit harsh on darcy though, his distribution for the first 30 minutes or so was dreadful but after that i thought he recovered well, did the best he could for someone whos clearly not a right back-
super kev will hopefully be back sooner rather than later

taylor -best game in a city shirt for me,hudson Motm :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

tremendous performance by the team after a battling 3 points against forest just 2 days ago

Re: Player ratings v Reading

Mon Jan 02, 2012 6:44 pm

Maybe a little harsh, could have been a 5 for Darcy I guess but certainly no more.

By and large I agree with the Ops ratings but have to disagree on the Turner and Hudson ones. Hudson was magnificent today, far better than Turner, who had a very poor first half. However that's just nit picking, apart from Blake they were all magnificent. Even though Blakes distribution was appalling he was still decent defensively!

I do agree that Hudson was the better defender today, I was tempted to give him a 9 but he did make a few minor mistakes.

thought whitts pass for the 4th goal wasnt bad either ,could knock 2 points off for that butt his names not darcy ,thought blakes deep cross late on deserved gestede scoring from it, going on all your other ratings darcy deserved a 6, playing out of position is not that easy ,but you obviously dont rate blake, but lets not kid ourselves mcnoughtons passing is awful, for me gunnarson was head and shoulders above everyone else today , got hit to shit all day did not moan once just got up and got on with it :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: " Player ratings v Reading "

Pretty much agree with these ratings!! Gunarson was great defensively and even better going forward!! Taylor did very well & Mason what a signing he's been!! As much as I want darcy to do well being our only welsh player in the team, defensively ok!! But his passing is awful! I counted 3 missed passes within the first 5 mins!

Wish gestede could get a bit more time, he looks a real handful and did well with the time he had!!

All in all what a great result with most of the other results in the other games helping us also!! :ayatollah:

Marshall 7 – Not his busiest game but didn't do anything wrong and looked solid enough.

Taylor 7- Normal Taylor for me, nothing amazing, nothing bad. Always solid.
Turner 7- Not his best game. Lost almost every header first half but grew into the game. Our best CB.
Hudson 8 – Very strong game today, looked solid throughout.
Blake 6- may aswell have played with 10 for the first 20 mins but again, grew into the game.
Ralls 8 – Best game from him. Was excellent from start to finish, deserved a goal.
Cowie 7 – Does what Don Cowie does, runs and runs and runs.
Witts 8 – Should give him a 7 for costingbus the goal but will give him an 8 for "that" pass for Millers goal, exceptional!
Gunnarrson 7-Very good again, works so hard and doesn't stop talking to the rest of the midfield.
Mason 7 – Took his goal well and is improving all the time. A real find by Malky
Miller 8 – worked his guts out today and more than deserved his goal, one of his best games.

Rudy 7- should have scored but keeper pulled off a decent save. Decent for 15 mins

Ref 7 -did ok but missed the obvious handball for the first goal

Thought Ralls had a great game today deserved a goal and battled well he was my man of the match with Whitts and Gunnerson a close second.

I always ignore ratings from nationals like the Mirror. Rubbish ratings which always suggest that they were watching a different game! How can Le Fondre and Robson-Kanu both get a 7 (the same as Hudson, Taylor, Whittingham, Gunnarsson, Miller and Mason  ) when they were on for half an hour and did nothing, whilst Cowie only got a 6?! :? Noel Hunt was deserving of a 6 then, was he? Thought he did nothing all game but moan. Absolutely useless!

For me Miller deserved a 8 or 9 for his overall play but Hudson and Gunnar were awesome

Good ratings overall.

I think Ralls and Blake both lacked confidence today and started badly, gaving a lot of the ball away. Ralls looked lost in his defensive duties for the first 20 minutes.

The difference was, Ralls settled into the game as he grew with confidence, Blake didn't and really it should be the other way around.

I'd use Saturday as an opportunity to give some of the fringe players another 90 minutes and hopefully they will continue to grow in confidence.

I also feel a little bad for Quinn, who hasn't had a look in this season but has always given us 100% - I thought he'd be Malky's type of player.

Just my 2 cents.

I'd go along with most of that Luke.

However, as has already been mentioned, bit harsh on Darcy. Seemed OK to me after a shaky start.

Hudson was excellent, but as he's Hudson he doesn't get the credit he's due.

And as for Chris Foy, as a City fan, I agree with you that he let the game flow. However, if I was a Reading fan I would have been quite miffed that he let the game flow after Mason's handball and as for our second goal, I've seen ref's given advantage to the goalie as he looked like he may have been interfered with.

Special mention for Ralls. Not only did he have a fantastic game, he looks a wonderful prospect for the future.

You may be right, I didn't really know about the handball at the time I posting an still haven't seen the highlights. Nice to see something go for us tho :ayatollah:

Luke

It was right in front of me in the grandstand. All around me thought it was handball and we were all quite surprised (delighted) that our new mate Chris let him go with it. That being said, he had loads to do and reading had plenty of time to defend, which they were crap at most of the game.

Yep, nice to see something go our way for a change. About time

He took it very well, I thought he had lost it a few times, should have passed to miller, didn't took another touch, fell over lol and still managed to finish it off :ayatollah:
