DOES WHITTINGHAM NEED REST?

Mon Jan 02, 2012 5:57 pm

Cracking win for the Bluebirds today, but I can't help think that Peter Whittingham needs a bit of rest.

Hear me out.

Every single player on the pitch worked their socks off today, but with City 3-1 up throughout the second half and Reading failing to threaten immensely, I do think Malky should have replaced Whitts with McPhail.

I understand that he's key to the team's success this season, and in no way do I think he should be starting on the bench, but not resting him when we're winning rather comfortably could backfire in the long run - in my opinion.

Still, here's to City's success today, and long may it continue! :D

Totally agree B team time. Save the main men, we have a lot of games in January.

Agreed except I think Kiss and Mason should both be starts and McPhail being the maybe, they need the match experience more than he does.

I'd rest him for the WBA game & get him ready for Palace.

Wo'nt argue with that. There has'nt been a reserve game for a while, so a run out for these players will be ideal. :ayatollah:

We must rest most of the first team for the cup game, today the league has suddenly become alot more important - especially with results around us going our way the last fortnight.

i think we will be playing our first team against palace on tuesday, so give the majority of the squad a rest on saturday, wittenham, miller, turner and hudson for a start, and probably cowie and gunnersson too.

players like earnie, conway, rudy, mcphail and gerrard need some game time

Yes. Don't play him until the next league game. The cups don't matter.

agreed, fu*k the cup we dont want a reply with west brom, and we'l make more money focusing on wembley league cup.

whittingham has been sublime in the past and then tends to go quiet for spells it coud just be part of his game

Thats the team id go with and the way Malky and his staff have the entire squad playing i wouldnt put it past them to turn West brom over who are a decent side but certainly no world beaters,The fringe players such as Lee Naylor and mcphail have come into the side and played extremely well, whatever 11 Malky selects will give WBA an extremely hard game
everyone is playing for that shirt now :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

WBA game is ideal chance to rest players , but whoever Malky puts out there will be expected to "do a shift".
He won't put out a team he expects to lose is the impression I get.

Id think West Brom will be making a lot of changes as well
