"BLUEBIRDS FANS CAN LOOK FORWARD TO 2012"

Sat Dec 31, 2011 6:21 pm

This is my column from today's Echo, I can't find a link online so have posted it in its entirety for you all to read.

Another eventful year is drawing to a close - and for Cardiff City fans there is certainly a mixed bag of feelings. I could spend my time writing about the wrongs of the latter half of last season but would rather focus on the future and where we are heading as a club.

When Malky Mackay was appointed back in June some fans were unimpressed, but long before we reached the halfway point of the season on Boxing Day those feelings had subsided.

They have been replaced with high expectation and a real belief that under Malky Mackay’s leadership the football club is most definitely heading in the right direction.

Most of us felt, and still feel, this is a rebuilding season. But to be in the top six heading into the New Year and a Carling Cup semi-final to look forward to, optimism is at the forefront of our emotions.

The management team have put our club in a fantastic position to do great things this season.
We have got to where we are because of hard work and a never give up attitude.

But there is also quality in this team and if Mackay can sign a few more players in January then there should be no reason why a play-off place cannot be achieved.

It has been reported that Mackay is waiting on Premier League to become available for him to strengthen.

But there are players in this division who I feel could bring enough to the party to help us celebrate at the end of the campaign.

One player I would like to see here is no stranger to Mackay, Watford’s Marvin Sordell, he has 18 months of his contract to run of his Hornets’ contract to run and is already an England Under-21 international.

There are also a couple of players at Nottingham Forest that could add depth and quality to our squad, Paul Anderson and Lewis McGugan.

Anderson’s career seems to have gone off the boil in the last year or so, but I remember watching him playing for Swansea and the boy has real pace and poses a massive threat when he is on form.

For whatever reason there seems to be a problem among the whole of the Forest squad.

They have several players of real quality in their squad but can’t seem to find the key to unlocking their potential at the moment.

I just hope it remains unlocked until into the New Year with the Bluebirds heading to the City Ground today.
Message boards suggested Forest wanted to do deal with City and take Robert Earnshaw back to the East Midlands with McGugan heading to South Wales.

I suspect there was very little truth in that report but I welcome the idea of the talented McGugan plying his trade here.
Of course, there are players in the Premier League who have the ability to step down to the Championship and turn on the performances.

Whoever Mackay targets, and hopefully is fortunate enough to get, then in Malky Mackay we trust.

He gives respect and the time to talk to anyone, but it is also clear he is man who knows what he wants and he will get it through hard work and demanding the same from his staff.

Cardiff City are fortunate to have Malky Mackay the fact everyone is pulling in the same direction bodes well for 2012 and beyond.

IF - and it's a big if, Malky can get us up this year on the resources and finances he's been limited to, it would go to show that he really is the man of the moment in the championship as he would accomplish in one season what Dave Jones couldn't do in 6yrs as the highest paid manager in the league! I know there's still a long way to go - but Malky has already achieved a substantial amount of points in the first half of the season. Compare that to the first half of every season under DJ and you will find - as a team and club we are already better off - Happy New year CCFC & Malky Mackay :ayatollah:
