Cardiff City manager Malky Mackay has two transfer targets for January

CARDIFF City boss Malky Mackay is ready to bolster his squad in January with two players capable of walking straight into his first XI.
Mackay anticipates full backing from the Bluebirds’ board in his bid to land his targets, saying: “There are no curve balls hitting me on the side of the head at the moment.”
He believes a swoop into the transfer market will boost his Bluebirds as they seek to maintain their impressive start to the season once the new year kicks in.
Mackay’s immediate focus is on preparing his side for a busy festive period, starting with a Boxing Day clash at his former club Watford.
But the City boss already has one eye on the transfer window which opens in 10 days’ time.
“We are certainly going to be going for people. Whether we get them or not depends on market forces,” said Mackay (pictured right).
“We will be examining permanent deals and the loan market if necessary.
“We need cover in certain areas, but January is not the time we are going to go for cover, If we bring in anyone next month it will invariably be someone who can help the team.
“It’s a balancing act between the cover players and the ones who are going to come in and hit the ground running in the first team squad.
“If we can at least get a couple who are Championship-ready, then we will.”
Mackay’s men endured a first defeat in 12 games at the hands of Middlesbrough on Saturday, although the Cardiff boss said he was delighted with the way his side had performed so far this season.
But Mackay believes if the promotion push is to be maintained new players next month are a necessity.
“The group I have already have got us up there on their merit. They can compete with anyone in this league. They’ve shown that,” said Mackay.
“But I want strength in depth, I would certainly like to bring in another couple in January to try to drive us forward even more. I’m as ambitious as anyone.
“When it comes to the directors I’m dealing with here there have been no surprises. What I ask, I get answers to.
“There are no curve balls hitting me on the side of the head at the moment in terms of, ‘I asked for that, where is it?’
“The board have sat down with me and been very open and candid about what our budget is and where we are in the pecking order.
“I’m being backed here, but I know the parameters I’m working in. I’ve always had parameters to work in and I’m comfortable with it.
“Everybody wants the best, but I know the cost of that. You’ve got that selfish thing of wanting something at once. But I’ve also worked through the consequences of that at Watford.
“And at Cardiff the club has also teetered on the brink, so how many times are you going to get your fingers burned?
“Of course, I want the best I can get in here with Cardiff, but we know where we are.”

I hope our fans understand it's not a simple process of "he's available, let's get him". We only need to remember last season when we signed JET, Koumas and Bellamy. They were all players we wanted. The board backed Jones to get them. However, not all of them worked out because they didn't fit into the team and the way we played.
It's well established that Mackay has his scouts looking at players in greater detail such as their off pitch activities and attitude. I have total faith that even if we don't sign any players in January it will be for the right reasons. I am confident that Mackay will get his men though. I seriously think we are one of the most attractive propositions right now for any player looking to make a name for themselves.

Tuckers written it and has put a spin on it.
It does say a couple of Championship players.
It also says Malky anticipates he will be backed.
Its looking promising and I know for a fact, Malky has set his mind on a certain striker, lets hope he gets him.

Annis,
I take it from your words, that you would be happy if we sign the forward already lined up?

I hope its Marvin Sordell as I think he would fit right in to our team and Malky knows him well.

“It might be difficult but there’s been a couple of Premier League clubs wanting to loan Jake.
“The other lads, people like Andros Townsend, we’ll get them out to the Championship or wherever to play.”
quoted by harry redknapp. i think townsend would be a good loan signing and it seems spurs are prepared to let him go to the championship..

i think Townsend is a non-starter, MM had him at watford last season and terminated the loan after 3 weeks

i did see that mate, however he did better for millwall scoring a crucial goal for them from 20yds and i feel this season he has matured slightly into a better player.. also playing in a number of european games.

Yes, I def would be.

All I will say is, I will be very happy if we sign him and it will show total ambition by our board, due to his wages being very high and a quality player.
