" An inside view of Bluebirds history "
by
Paul Abbandonato, Wales on Sunday - 18/12/11

Cardiff City fans have an opportunity to purchase a couple of books with a difference this Christmas.

Bluebirds legend Phil Dwyer signed copies of his autobiography Mr Cardiff City ahead of yesterday’s launch Championship clash with Middlesbrough.

And perhaps City’s most famous fan from the terraces, Annis Abraham, has also brought out a book which recounts his many stories following the Bluebirds down the years.

Annis: My Story offers a fascinating insight into the Hammam years. Annis was, and still is, a close friend of Hammam – although, like everyone who had dealings with the man from Lebanon, he had some furious fall-outs with him.

Dwyer and Annis clearly share a common passion for Cardiff City FC.

Arguably no-one has given more to the cause than Dwyer. He represented the club more times than anyone in its history and was voted Cardiff’s most popular player.

His book recalls some of his greatest games and is packed with details of promotion pushes, relegation battles and European competitions.

There are also lots of anecdotes and insights into Cardiff legends like Jimmy Scoular, Jimmy Andrews, Richie Morgan, Len Ashurst and Don Murray.

Dwyer’s book, I guess, was always going to be fondly received, given his standing in Bluebirds history.

I approached Annis’ book with more trepidation, given the publicity which has surrounded him over the years. But I have to admit to finding it a fascinating insight into a whole host of issues surrounding the Bluebirds.

Maybe it just verified for me things I believed to be true but were never printed or proven at the time. Annis takes the reader inside the boardroom during the rollercoaster Hammam years, revealing the good, the bad and the ugly of that particular regime.

Annis also talks of the protest march he led against Peter Ridsdale, Hammam’s successor as chairman, explaining his decision to spearhead the move which saw more than 2000 Bluebirds fans demand Ridsdale’s head.

Shortly afterwards, the Ridsdale regime was over. It was a real triumph of fan power, evidence that the supporters are still the people who matter most to Welsh football – and for that, at least, I think we should be grateful.

Great stuff Carl, great to see the local media and fans give their support to Phil's and Annis' book, both of which give a unique perspective of Cardiff City Football Club.

Annis - any ideas for your next book yet? Theirs definitely demand and call for a sequel :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

It is a fair piece by Paul in today's paper Jimbo and as he points out, one is a City Legend and the other is probably the most famous fan City has.

Their stories are ones worth telling and I for one enjoyed both books.
