MALKY MACKAY told his dejected Cardiff City stars to banish their Boro blues by bouncing back to winning ways at Watford on Boxing Day.

Mackay’s Bluebirds dipped from third down to fifth in the Championship table after losing their titanic tussle with Tony Mowbray’s Middlesbrough.

Faris Haroun fired a second-half winner to give Mowbray’s men a 3-2 victory and end Cardiff’s impressive unbeaten run.

Mackay was in reflective mood afterwards, saying: “I don’t wish to sound greedy, but having put such a decent run of results together it would have been nice to keep it going.

“But sometimes in football you just have to take your medicine and this is one of those days.

“We have to look to bounce back when we go to Watford over Christmas.”

Cardiff have a golden chance to climb back up the Championship table over Christmas when they meet 18th placed Watford and then go to Nottingham Forest, who are stuck down in the relegation positions.

Boro manager Mowbray said: “It was a very different Cardiff side to the one we beat 3-0 in May, which had Craig Bellamy and Jay Bothroyd up front and Jason Koumas coming on as a substitute.

“That team had special individual talent.

“This side doesn’t possess that, but I could see a real work ethic and team spirit from them which made it hard for us.

“But I think, come the end of the season, Cardiff would expect to be up near the top.

“I would expect them to be there, too.”

It's one game that Malky wants to win no doubt but more importantly get the lads to put in a great performance !!

I'll be there cheering em on but hope it's not a repeat of last years encounter!!

We can bounce back as we did after the Peterborough defeat back in October,
U have to go to places like Watford, forest, etc and play to win to get points throughout the season!

Certainly not a place to go and settle for a point!!

Just hope we can bring home the 3 pts along with more of their staff or players :ayatollah:

I thought our midfiled were bullied yesterday...there did not seem to be an enforcer in our team. Their midfield and defenders pushed and shoved all game and the ref let them get away with it.
