Tue Dec 13, 2011 9:29 pm

This is how the BBC Radio 1 presenter Jen Long reacted to the tragic news of Gary Speed's death a few hours after it became public.Image

Shame some people have the need too say something, even if it's nothing of use.

Hope she gets sacked, "lolz"

well shes only taking the piss out of herself
shes obviously heard a report about a guy called gary speed
she didnt know who he was so she googled him
then she took the piss out of herself saying sport, which is along the lines of how bad is my lack of sports knowledge
unless the fact that she doesnt know who gary speed is is actually that insulting to you
but if your not a sports fan why would you

To me it's completely disrespectful. The "lolz" at the end is her saying "it's only sport, who cares?" imo.

Re: The most insulting response to Gary Speed's death?

It seems she didn't know the name Gary Speed, so Googled him, then must have read the horrific news of that day, and thought that "lolz" was an appropriate comment to make. This from a BBC Radio 1 presenter, who should know better than to make stupid comments like this.

Post it on the Gary speed Facebook group, see what they think. Hope the bitch gets sacked.

i mean people were posting jokes within hours of his death
and only now is it the most insulting thing ever said
she doesnt watch sport
she is a music critic
poor taste maybe
insulting
for a bunch of guys who chant 'we do what we want' and proud of this hard culture and violent culture surrounding cardiff city you aint half over sensitive

To be fair, isn't she just asking who he is????? To football fans, and Welsj football fans in particular, he was a legend, but to some clueless, not sporty DJ, she wouldn't have a clue.
A bit insensitive, but not the end of the world? :?

Clearly she isn't asking who he is because she has just said she has googled it????

And I certainly wouldn't laugh at anyone's death like that and if I was working for the BBC I'd say very little.

no i think with a little bit of embarrassment she said she didnt know who gary speed was and what all the fuss was about
so she googled him
then she took the piss out of herself by joking about her lack of knowledge of sport
simples
anyone with half a brain can see that

was wondering how long it would take for the steward thing to raise its head
my interpretation maybe wrong
so could yours
my job as a steward has nothing to do with it
im sorry if you disagree with me but dragging my job into it is clutching at straws a little

Of course you are entitled to your opinion but I'm not claiming people who disagree with me have half brains
I defend you a lot of which you would never asked, but you comment to me shows everything to me about the type of stewards people complain about.

why has it taken almost 3 weeks to raise this issue
if it was posted on the day of his death

I can see both points of view but I dont believe mine Tallys with yours. Maybe her comment was naive at best but totally disrespectful from someone being paid by the BBC for sure. And when I don't agree I certainly don claim to have more brainpower than other people

I'm guessing not many people seen it, does that make it right? Took them weeks to arrest people after Chelsea incidents, is there a time scale in disrespect?

well i think Raymond Verheijen's comments were in poor taste but i dont see many people slating him
but people are allowed their own opinions but i still dont think there is any insult involved
when i told my mrs gary speed was dead she said whos that i didnt dump her and kick her out of the house for it
she has no interest in sport

I thought his comments were distasteful and said it on here.

No but did your wife then google it and say "sport" then laugh out loud?
If he did would you think that was appropriate?

Not that it compares to postin it on a social networking site and being a BBC employee

well actually she said wales arent doing that bad are they
still in a bit of shock i said no were doing really well
but that was her first reaction
and what context did she say it in
if shes taking the piss out of herself having a very limited if any knowledge of sport
and her facebook page is her private opinions
if she joked about it live on the air
it maybe something that will be raised
but if we are going to criticise her for her personal view we should take a good hard look in the mirror because weve all done it
when the pope died, michael jackson to name two

yeah but lol has so many different meanings it could mean shes laughing at gary speed
or more than likely shes laughing at her lack of sports knowledge
i really dont think this person has done anything wrong
i dont know this sion person is but considering his or her first post and topic was this topic id delve a little deeper in what the real meaning behind this topic is
