There was a thread a short while back about being stopped from taking photos. This article might interest you...

Berwyn, this article is bang on. The law and 'freedom' to photograph is quite clear and it is difficult for anyone to stop a photograph being taken in a public place

I recently had an altercation with an over-zealous security guard at a prominent Cardiff public building and was threatened with the police. I told him he'd best call them then

Result?? A bollocking for the guard from his (obviously more switched on) boss and some nice photgraphs of a set of railings for my project!!

I have a copy of some 'advice' on photgraphing people and buildings in public places and I'll try to dig it out to post on here

Makes interesting reading :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Yes Sven, there are lots of stories coming out at the moment where security and police are being sued. In all cases they are settling out of court, basically because they don't have a leg to stand on. It's even better when they touch you or your camera because then they are looking at assault and criminal damage.

I don't know what it is but as soon as these people see a camera they have to stick their noses in and try and stop you. If we were going to do anything dodgy we'd have a covert small camera hidden away, not a big arse SLR.

Was filming my little girl down the park in the summer and got spoken to like a f*cking peadophile by the young "park ranger".

He got it back both barrels and sent on his merry way.

You got to listen to the you tube recorded conversation of this incident, so frustrating, I'm sure a lot of us have been there before. :x

It's a condition of entry that you do not take photos of any kind. Taking photos can get you thrown out BUT they are not allowed to touch your camera or the phots you've already taken. They are yours even though you broke the rules in taking them. They can only ask you to leave for breaking their rules of entry, in the same way as any other rule they might have. Of course it doesn't give them the right to assault you or touch your property.

If you get a FL licence you can apply for accreditation to take photos pitch side. Basically to get a FL licence then, appart from a few little hoops to jump through you need to have published I think 10 photos and been paid for those photos. Public liability insurance as well and there's no reason for the FL to refuse you a licence. They are very fair accross the board but of course don't try taking the piss getting a licence just to watch free football, the other journo's will grass on you. ;)

They've done a guide to give out to security people regarding how to behave when they see someone with a camera. Hopefully the security people who can read this guide will draw some pictures for the ones that can't, and that way people will be left alone to take photos without having to put up with arguments with over zealous security/stewards.

The guide is here... http://www.bsia.co.uk/web_images/Securi ... de_002.pdf
