UEFA Licence

Thu Dec 01, 2011 1:02 pm

I think we have established that we need to win the Carling Cup to qualify for the Europa League.

However, we also need something called a 'UEFA Licence'

Well have we got one?

I think(not 100%) that you need it to host International matches.

Some problem prob will arise were we to do it, and stop us from entering! A problem with our debt would probably be the excuse, with the FA sealing it to stop our entry!

Tony UEFA introduced the licencing of clubs that enter it's competitions in 2004 (I think) and since then the FA/PL have ensured that their clubs have the licence. Not sure that the FL has followed the same path but if a FL club qualified for a UEFA competition it can apply for a licence.

I did once watch a presentation on the system and if I remember correctly the licence is actually issued by the clubs national association or League and covers areas like the Stadium, Sporting, Academy, financial & legal. Given the Welsh FA have given licences to League Of Wales clubs we really shouldn't have a problem.

Clubs have been refused a licence once they qualified for a UEFA comptition with the highest profile being CSKA Sofia were denied access to the Champions League in 2008/09 for a Sporting failure (don't know what it was). FC Colraine from Ireland were also refused entry to the Europa League the same season for again a sporting failure.

I really don't think we would have a problem should we apply, the stadium is licenced already for example, also it may become more than a litlle political should we be refused a licence, the old Welsh club in an English Competition stuff.

What I'm really not sure about is if the FA would put forward the losing team in a League Cup Final to a Europa League place. I really fancy the PL would fancy dishing the place out to another PL side say finishing 8th or whatever.

That would be more of a worry to me than the club licence. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Not a worry to me.

Mostly because the rules are pretty clear - the place would go to a high placed team in the Prem, not the losers.
