If the winner of the League Cup qualifies for Europe through the league then the Europa League spot goes to the next best placed Premier League side, NOT the runner-up of the League Cup

This is different for the F.A Cup as the Runner-up would get a spot but again, NOT for the League Cup

If Ian has quoted official FIFA rules then you should check the date of the rule because im sure they changed last season!

As I am such a Nerd I decided to telephone the Football League Competitions Department and ask them directly. So from the horses mouth you have to win the Carling Cup to qualify for Europe.

in this set of rules it does say " Should the FA Cup winners, runners-up (if applicable) and the Football League Cup winners already have qualified for Europe, their place goes to the next best placed clubs in the Premier League.
