Gary Speed's kids to lead us out at Wembley if we get there

Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:11 am

Would that be a nice gesture do people think?

I am not (like many on here) counting my chickens and am well aware that Palace can turn us over.

I am also aware that Gary Speed had no real links to our club but I feel it would be a nice gesture were we to get there.

That would be a great idea :ayatollah: if we get there :D

No I don't think it would be appropriate. Should we get there!

The next Wales match i agree but not the city as he had no association with us apart from him being welsh so i agree with the other posters against the idea.

I second that.

:ayatollah:

No offence intended to the Speed family, but they had no connection to CCFC.

So what was with the massive fuss we made Tuesday which we were widely praised for?

Because the FAW were there I would say.

No offence to Speeds kids but I bet theyve never been to a CCFC match. Theres far more deserving "mascots".

And I want to know the answer to the big W question before we keep lauding praise on him. Especially since his wife says he was not suffering depression. Sounds dodgy.

That's not the point, mate. I was there on Tuesday, wearing a Wales footie shirt and holding up my scarf etc.

The point is, IF we get to Wembley, some of us would prefer to pay tribute to a CCFC fan who was killed this season.

WHY?

Re: Gary Speed's kids to lead us out at Wembley if we get there

Thu Dec 01, 2011 1:18 pm

sadly, i dont think we will ever really find out

Re: Gary Speed's kids to lead us out at Wembley if we get there

Thu Dec 01, 2011 4:36 pm

I appreciate that Gary Speed had no direct connection to CCFC but Cardiff is the capital city of the country that he was so proud to represent and manage. Therefore i think that it would be great if Speeds kids could lead us out should we make it to Wembley. If it can bring a little light into what is a very dark time for them, i am all for it.

Likewise I also agree that should we get to Wembley, Mike Dyes immediate family should share the honour too.

Does it have to be mutually exclusive?

There are 2 families suffering enormous pain at the moment let's put some sunshine into their lives at a desperate time for them. :ayatollah:

That would be really emotional and there won't be a dry eye in the house. What a proud and honourable thing to do. Good Luck to Cardiff City in the semi final. ATB. Reeco

Top man :ayatollah:

I'm not sure if this Cardiff/Swansea love in is healthy

I've even found myself being secretly pleased when the Swans get a good result. It must be a middle age thing!

Nothing wrong with it, in my opinion. I've met some really sound Swansea fans this season and Reeco is one of the best.

Too much animosity between us generally and it's time for change.

Glad some people like the idea. That's the problem with this board lately so many people to jump over any idea you have and put it down.

Half the time i think lots of the fans only hate each other for hates sake.

If having a successful ccfc and scfc means that Welsh football gets more parity in Rugby obsessed local media its got be a good thing. In excess of 40,000 fans watch their teams every week in S Wales. Unthinkable 10yrs ago.

No!!!

Let Gary, and Mikey rest now...

Let them sleep

We have not intruded on their families grief thus far, and id be proud to
think we have actually helped Mikeys family through the last couple of
months.

But maybe we can all go so far as to be intrusive? Even though we all
mean well.

I genuinely think that having Speedos kids and Mikey Dyes relatives leading us out could prove cathartic for them as it would be made very clear to them just how well loved their family members were. Anyway all v hypothetical at this stage.

As I said on another thread... what about the families of the soldiers who have been killed in Afganistan who have died who were city fans, the fella who sadly died outside the stadium last week, as someone said above the list goes on, as such I personally don't think it should be Gary's or Mikes family as their loss which incidently it terrible and extremely sad, but for these other families their loss to them is equally as terrible..!! :ayatollah:

Mikey died in awful circumstances at the football in which publicity was huge. Obviously everyone knows about Gary Speed. Although Gary Speed's children have probably never been to watch Cardiff, we are the capital city of the country that GS was manager of and therefore I think the gesture would be justified.

Of course it is hypothetical at the moment until we play Palace over 2 legs.

Let his Family grieve Chiefs. He had no connection with CCFC. But he was the boss of Wales and was on the verge of doing something very special with them. We have now honoured him for this, now its time to move on.
