Ok, I'll prove you wrong. Liverpool did not qualify for the Europa league this year because of their league position. If the same thing happens next year and they beat you in the carling cup final, then you will not qualify!

However, I do hope you go on and fuckin win it anyway chaps!

It's nothing to do with last years results or rules! Just that if Liverpool beat you in the final, and fail once again through their league position, then they will qualify as carling cup winners!

When we got the the FA cup final UEFA stepped in and said even though we play under the FAW we would get a Europa cup place in we WON the competition. Do you think they would do the same for a runner up if we were losing finalists??? Doubtful??

Matt Garbutt insists the link is wrong and that the only way we qualify for Europe is by winning it. Suppose it needs some clarification from the FA

im pretty sure that is wrong, its correct for the FA cup but not for the league cup

Im pretty sure your wrong Iain. Fa said this week - If both FA Cup finalists qualify for Europe by other means, an extra place goes to the next highest place in the league. As for the League Cup, runners-up get nothing, except runners-up medals.

Good article above about the change in Europa League Qualification in 2009 and the impact it had on the Premier League last season.

Right at the bottom it does say "Whether finishing sixth in the league can be deemed better than being runners-up in the FA Cup is open to debate. The Carling Cup has, quite rightly, never offered a route into Europe for losing finalists, but the FA Cup surely still has the stature to command a place for both finalists."

True but I can see Liverpool getting a place in Europe by their league position. Also I can see man c beating them in the semis

No Welsh club will qualify for Europe under the English FA. Im sure thats a fact....... If we had WON the FA cup we would still not have been allowed into Europe.

Steve, but if say Man City or Liverpool qualify through the league, I was told we would def take the place if we lost in the final.

This is what happened when we were in the FA cup....... has anything changed??

Our position remains unchanged and should Cardiff win the FA Cup this season they would not be chosen as the FA’s nomination for European competition.

Cardiff enter into English domestic competitions on this understanding and they are fully aware of the rules and regulations under which they take part.

These rules remain the same and there would be no scope for Cardiff, or any of the other Welsh clubs in the English system, to qualify for Europe as England’s representative

Yes if it was the FA Cup not in the Carling Cup though

It clearly states the rules in the section

Should the FA Cup winners, runners-up (if applicable) and the Football League Cup winners already have qualified for Europe, their place goes to the next best placed clubs in the Premier League

Therefore, if we lose the final and Man City / Liverpool have qualified for Europe (which they obviously will), the place will go to to the Premier League
