It was almost a 20,000 to 1 chance but it happened to my son.
At the end of tonights brilliant win Aron Gunnarsson kicked the match ball into the crowd and my son caught it!
Imagine his double delight at the time.He was overjoyed and rightly so.
Then as we made our way out into the concourse he was confronted by 3 stewards one of whom grabbed his bag and emptied the contents onto the floor.
As a crowd gathered to see what the commotion was ,the ball was confiscated by the so called "Team Leader".
When I and several other bystanders asked what was going on this team leader said that he was preventing my son from stealing the ball.Everyone there was astounded and voiced their disgust towards the stewards.
But he walked away taking the ball with him and leaving me and my son very angry and distraught.
How the guy is not expecting a hospital breakfast in the morning is down to the fact that although the red mist descended I managed to keep control over my emotions.
I reported all the above to several high up people at the club and they all said there was no need for the team leader to act the way he did.
I have his name and will be writing to our chairman about the event.
How would any of you have felt and reacted if it had happened to you?

Even thats a bit pathetic, its not as if the ball just went out of play and someone tried to take it home. Gunarsson kicked it into the crowd and (im guessing) did it for a fan to get? I would have done exactly the same and took it home (or tried)

no but they can refuse entry into the ground after the fact
im not getting into this arguement again
you tell me another stadium anywhere in this country that lets you out at half time to run to the local mcdonalds
infact their arent many clubs that let you outside to smoke so be grateful for that
its the fact that the club has given an inch and fans trying to take a mile

I have to agree with that. The little lad nor his Dad have to worry about stealing charges because they have the defence that Gunnasson kicked the ball into the crowd after the game had finish so therefore it was safe to assume he was making a gift of it (just like when players through shirts into the crowd)
However, there is no way a steward has the power of stop and search and by his actions in doing so is almost certainly a criminal (& civil) offence.
Take up with the Police.

yes stewards can stop and search under random search policy
otherwise you wouldnt get searches at turnstiles before you enter the gates
the only restrictions are male stewards are not allowed to search female spectators and vice versa
plus no steward is allowed to body search anyone under the age of sixteen as they are minors (you should see stewards asking for your age if they are in doubt)
stewards are allowed to search bags of any sex and of minors (as long as a parent or a responsible adult is present)

to do what smoke or eat outside of the stadium
and why should the club allow you to eat anything other than their options they are not making any money
its a club decision
the club decided to impose it they want to make sure you are not spending money outside of the stadium
they could be a lot worse they dont have to let you out to smoke
and therefore have droves of ejections at half time from people smoking in the toilets
and that is against the law
its pointless blaming the stewards for this their paid to enforce the clubs rules
as is their right as a private business
you dont see many restaurants happy for you to bring your own food in
i dont see why they should be any different
though they are lenient they could stop you from bringing any food in it is an option but they dont

I would imagine stewards have power to ask to look in a bag or ask to see what you are concealling under a shirt or coat and refuse entry or eject from the stadium anyone who doesn't co-operate.
However, I don't believe for one minute you have the power to sieze bags and throw the contents on the floor.

Sorry but I don't know what country you live in but in this one no one has an automatic right to touch you or your property, not even the police.
On the way in to the ground you can ask people to be searched as a condition of entry. In other words if you want to come in then you'll have to let us search you first. If you don't agree then you are not coming in. BUT That then does not extend to mean that you can asault kids and their parents. You could ask the kid very nicely if you could look in his bag. You could also get a police officer to organise a search based on that belief that you think the person is stealing somthing, and then step back whilst the police officer does his bit. The police then have rules and procedures to go through before, during and after the search.

Whichever way you put it I can't believe that you have the power to stop and insist on searching people. You can ask and if the individual fails to co-operate you can refuse entry, but in no way do stewards have the automatic right to rifle through people's personal possessions at their own discretion.
I would also add the young lad was LEAVING the stadium. Surely your duties are confined to stopping fans from bringing into the stadium possible weapons/food/drink. Harassing fans on the way out by throwing the contents of their bag onto the floor can’t have any kind of justification.
Therefore acting in such a manner is a criminal offence end of.

it should have been dealt with so much better
we have policies about searching
and if this steward is found to have broken the policy he or she should be sacked
but if you agree with searching at turnstiles then searching whilst in the ground is acceptable as well
the same principles apply

then its down to the fan to choose
