Actually when you boo a player it inspires them to do better when they are the opposition, thats what many players who I have met over the years have said to me. To them it means they are well known and they mean something to you.
Do you agree with that ?
Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:28 pm
Depends on the player and type of game he is having.
Good laugh if he is having a mare
Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:32 pm
It depends Annis, i've no doubt that it inspires players to do better - but at the same time it adds pressure to them and forces them to think about everything they can do.
You've only got to look back at Leeds in the cup years ago? They couldn't even string passes together they were so nervous! I know this is an extreme example, but it shows the effect it can have.

Down by where I sit we have started picking on the oppositions left-back during the second half. The first time it happened was Southampton and Danny Fox and he fell to pieces.
Since then we have gone for Moxey (C Palace) Jay McEveley (Barnsley) and Cunningham (N Forest)
I would say we got to them all (especially McEveley who gave us the middle finger

) although N Forest's Cunningham was not affected one bit.
So I would say it does affect a lot of players but there are those who can cope very well.

Chris Gunter is a good one to boo. it definitely effects his game. I like Chris Gunter but if it effects him and gives us a better chance then so be it
Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:41 pm
booing ex swansea players is totally acceptable
Mon Nov 28, 2011 8:42 pm
Well just think about what Jason Scotland done against us this season for ipswich.; scored a good goal.
But think about that LB against doncaste(his name escapes me) he was having and absolute nightmare.
Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:14 pm
I never boo opposing players because it always spurs them on. I just laugh when they f*ck up!
Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:18 pm
When u boo scotland or that tw*t emnes u just know wot they r goin to do
Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:39 pm
Some players we boo sometimes score against us like Jason Scotland for Ipswich not long ago. But Booing them is just part of the banter and i don't mid it (Sometimes)
Mon Nov 28, 2011 9:41 pm
Look at Lee Trundle-he absolutely shat himself at NP with 17000 bluebirds hurling abuse at him
Mon Nov 28, 2011 10:08 pm
I don't boo other players (whether it spurs them on or not) as it has no class.
I sing and chant for my team.
I get fucked off when its like a morgue until a booing opportunity comes along.
I don't mind the intimidation post in this thread though!
It has a bit of menace to it -much better than a mass boo

Yes. They usually end up having the last laugh and if a striker or midfielder normally score to shut the fans up. Jason Scotland immediately springs to mind. I can remember Jason Bowen getting dogs abuse playing on the wing for the Jacks though at Ninian Park many years ago and you could see that it really did put him off his game. That's about the only time I can recall it effecting the opposing player though.

My mates a Pompey fan and I went to see them V Leicester at the weekend. They were giving Nugent no end of abuse all game and I said "he'll get a goal before the end" 15 minutes before it's over, 15-20 yard drive.
Fair do's he didn't celebrate, given the stick he had I was surprised. I prefer it like recently against Barnsley(?) or was it Palace when we were yelling Handball all the time, funny and effective.

Who was the wide player a couple of seasons ago playing for Leicester i think who kept puting his arms up calling for the ball and the Ninian Stand in particular started to copy him and absolutely crucified him for the rest of the game it was really funny

Last season when City played Burnley myself and many many other fans aplauded Steve Thomson when he came on as sub for them , then he duely scored

a lot on here slagged us off for doing that , personally I always boo an ex Jack regardless of how many games he played for them and ex City players who are basically wankers after they leave

I think it was Hussey of Coventry

"Everyone do the Hussey Hussey !!"

I remember years ago in a cup match against Ipswitch we gave Eric Gates(terrific player)all sorts of shit,I think because his wife had left him or something I can't quite remember.Anyway the little fucker scored a hatrick against us and was then subbed. He didn't half give some back as he trotted off.Anyone else remember that?

I seem to remember thinking "fair play" at the time.

City v QPR League Cup in 75 or 76 think it was ....... " Stanley , Stanley where's your wife ? " , Bowles turned to the Bob Bank and shrugged his shoulders , class response and QPR won on the night too

I was there for that one too-another great character that seems to be sadly missing from todays game.PC brigade have a lot to answer for.

Liverpool v Swans a few weeks back, as Bellamy is warming up, a fairly large section of the Swans fans are booing him. All I could do was stand there thinking "This is going to come back and bite us on the arse!"
It didn't that day, but I have seen it happen many times... In particularly, that goal he scored at the Liberty

Scott Murray anyone?
Tue Nov 29, 2011 2:25 pm
i can understand that, but think of the times at ninian park, when we would boo a player, they seemed to play bad throughout the game. maybe it was just ninian park i don't know.

thats exactly the same as we have done since ninian park... and a certain wilson ....
mceveleys game went a bit to pot after that, clearances going straight out and giving the ball away cheaply.
it does depend on the individuals character..

Being booed should motivate all players to give it loads. I'd love it me.
The only time i've ever seen anyone really affected by it all was Hartson
that midweek game against West Brom
It was the harshest, most focused, loudest abouse i've ever heard one
player take. That night we done him!!

Remember giving Jimmy Quinn of Reading at the time a bit of stick, singing "Jimmy Quinn homosexual," he turned to us and said "I'm not." We knew we had him then, next thing he did a bad tackle and was booked, classic !
My favourite reverve of this situation was some guy giving Martin Pattterson of Stoke some shit from the lower grandstand whle he was warming up, Patterson turned and gestured that the guy was fat, fatty bit straight away and tried to get on the pitch, quality !

The daftest thing nowadays is that Jimmy Quinn could have you
arrested for saying that
