If any of these scum papers contributed to the decision of Gary Speed to take his life in desperation then there should be hell to pay.
I am not buying any of them anymore. All newspapers should be boycotted.

Would you say that about the papers which exposed the MP expenses scandal?
I'm not saying it is right for a press pack to chase Sienna Miller down a dark lane, but we need a free press (and investigate journalism) of public figures.

There's a huge difference between exposing wrongdoing eg the expenses furore and prying into people's private lives and ruining lives.

Actually I would tend to agree with you.
However, if there was a privacy law you can bet your arse that the MP expenses scandal would never have seen the light of day. So while I hate hearing the stories before the Levison enquiry (more so the McCann's and the Dowlers than the film & TV stars) I'm also worried that there could be such a dumbing down of the press that the excesses of some public figures could well benefit.

It's a fine line Tony but it's one that needs to be skirted successfully. I think stuff like the expenses scandal would always come out. At least I hope so anway.

The speaker of the house at the time Michael Martin (the Celtic fan) tried to bury the whole thing by making MP's expenses an omission from the freedom of information act.
That's why I am very weary of giving more tools to the rich and famous to hide their indiscretions. So IMO the public interest defence has to stay but be better policed. PCC should be given proper teeth and be willing to use them.
