Miners strike 1984. Every area went on strike except Nottingham and Derbyshire as they thought they would be safe as their pits were apparently profitable.

After the strike that cow Maggie Thatcher closed down the pits in Wales and Yorkshire double quick and once they were closed she closed the ones in the scab areas as well.

So it just goes to show you cannot trust a Tory Government or a scab from Nottingham or Derby.

My recollection of what happened was that Thatcher was loyal to the areas she perceived had been loyal to her, and it was only after she lost power that Heseltine when he became Deputy Prime Minister (in what was seen as possibly an act of spite by some against her) then shut down the mines of those areas that had decided to work instead of strike.

I'm going on my memory, but I think that's correct.

"OH SCABBY SCABBY, SCABBY SCABBY SCABBY SCABBY NOTTINGHAM" And don't let them forget it. They left the NUM and set up there own union while the countries miners went on strike.
