SAME BUDGET AS LAST YEAR. . . .BUT IS IT?

Sun Nov 27, 2011 6:41 pm

Alan Whiteley said last week that the wage budget is "broadly comparable" to that of last season.

I have no reason to doubt what Alan said is the truth but does this seasons' budget include former staff's wages?

I would say that the wage bill does include that of the wages of Dave Jones, Terry Burton, Paul Wilkinson and Alex Armstrong.

That would put a figure in the region of £1.2million included in the wage budget this season that makes it comparable to last season.

So far this season we have amassed 34 points from 19 games scoring 33 goals and conceding 22 and currently sit 3rd in the Championship and also being in the quarter finals of the Carling Cup.

Last season at the same juncture we had attained 36 points from 19 games scoring 34 goals and conceding 20 and sat 2nd in the Championship but had been dumped out of the Carling Cup in the 2nd round away to Peterborough.

Up to and our away game on Boxing day we have 4 fixtures which include 2 at home and 2 away, these include Birmingham and Middlesbrough at home and Millwall and Watford away.

Last season we played Preston and Coventry at home and faced Middlesbrough and Watford away, we took 4 points from the possible 12.

I believe we will better the 4 points over the same period and have a greater points haul for the season than we did when the final whistle blew at Vicarage Road last year.

For myself on the evidence above Malky Mackay is achieving more for the money that he has spent than Dave Jones did with the funds made available to him, Malky has had a lesser budget to work with, has not had the same time as Dave Jones to build a side and has certainly not had the 'luxury' of high profile players to work with.

Hats off to you Malky Mackay, your work so far has to be commended.

I think we've got a few extra coaches/back-room staff this season as well Carl.

Also, I'm not 100% sure Whiteley is completely au fait with the details of the budget. May be better directing those questions to Doug Lee.

I always assumed the budget will have included all the footballing staff.... Like mentioned above MM has also brought in more staff than jones had as that's how he likes to work.

From the outside it seems MM was promised a budget and he has used it in the key areas he felt needed improving :ayatollah:

I agree with you that the job Malky has done so far has been terrific, there is a positivity around the club that hasn't been there for the past few years (since the Preston 61 debacle imo).

I also think Dave Jones did a good job for us and took as far as he probably could.

I don't think any comparisons of points totals between the two should be done until the end of the season for two reasons:-

Firstly, DJ sides go through streaks, both good and bad. We normally went on a good run around Feb/March and always bad runs in November. Comparing the two managers in November is only fair as long as they are compared in Feb/March.

Secondly, the City side of this season is mirroring Malky's Watford side from last season. Let's hope we don't fall away in the same way that Watford did!

Carl,
I know this is completely off the topic but I think I remember you mentioning in your update/meeting with Alan Whiteley that you will be meeting with him again shortly. If this is true could you please ask him this one question;
Is it possible that aisles 104 & 107 could be added to the Canton Singing Section?
I think this idea is 10 times more realistic than the before-mentioned idea of swapping the Canton and Grange ends and it will surely improve the rather dull atmosphere around the stadium.
By standing you will generally be able to generate more noise than you would if you're sat down.
I know i'm going to get the response of ''If people want to stand they will go in aisles 105 rr 106'', so I thought ahead;
A lot of people who want to go to 105 or 106 get rejected because there aren't any seats left because of seaon tickets etc. So they have to settle for 104 or 107, where they are told to sit down and if they start chanting, sometimes people look at them as if they have 2 heads! (This has happened to me in the past.)
I think this a valid argument to bring up in a meeting and a lot of others on this board will agree with me.

Feedback would be appreciated

MM is alot more ethical than the arrogant dave jones ,

i mean what exactly can jones offer when your losing, just stand their face like a slapped ass and fold his arms,

also we'v got probably extra staff and sport pshycoligist's which would explain the changed mentality, that's something dj would never do,

it's only a few games to january

Hats off to everyone I reckon. To the people who got rid of Jones and
took Malky on even though they knew he was going to drastically
re-shape the playing side of the Club. To the people who Malky brought
in, both players and training staff. Also, irrespective of the great work
Malky is doing motivating the lads and getting them playing together and
giving their all.... We should also applaud the board for sorting out the
Clubs finances so the players dont have to worry when or if their wages
are going in every month. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'm in 104 row bb and there are quite a lot of people who would rather be standing and singing than siting down around me, make the whole canton standing!! Would defiantly improve atmosphere and hence help the team.. Is there a limit as to how many the club is allowed to allow standing?? :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

The over all budget is the same but the disposable budget (what's left to play with in the transfer market) is obviously a lot less because we are paying off the previous manager/backroom staff.

Like many the fact we are still paying Jones until May 2012 is annoying, but in fairness he is doing nothing wrong by taking the money he was illegally entitled to.

Norwich were 9pts behind us as well, so i think we are in a real strong postion, the squad of players in which we have are all working together and hard, i honestly think that things at city will only get better as the season moves on. no matter what though, very happy with what Malcky has done :ayatollah:
