Today football lost a true great and Wales lost a legend.
Like many others I was shocked to hear the news, and even more shocked with the circumstances in which he died. It's such a sad time, with what he had been achieving with Wales of late he really had picked up the spirits of Welsh football. We have been robbed of what would have been surely a great national manager.
It shows what sort of person he was with all the tributes coming in from all around the world. Growing up watching Wales he was one of the players who gave it his all, and never let us down. He was a true football pro and a gentlemen. Gary Speed was present at the Cardiff City game when they paid tribute to Mike Dye not so long a go, that for me says everything about the man. It also shows what effect he had on people, Craig Bellamy withdrawing from today's Liverpool squad being too upset to play and Shay Given in tears during the game earlier today.
Swansea City fans gave a great tribute to Gary Speed and I hope, in fact I know Cardiff City fans will do the same on Tuesday night v Blackburn Rovers and on Sunday v Birmingham City. The next Welsh home game will be an emotional one, but Gary Speed is a true welsh legend and should be forever remembered.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all his family and friends at this very sad time.
Gary Speed, your were a true football pro and you never let us down.
A welsh hero and legend.
We will never forget you.
RIP Gary Speed.
