Someone tell me how we're supposed to take these rankings seriously...

The rankings are for a specific time period (4 years) with older results in that period gradually having less weighting than more recent results.
The reason Wales have dropped is because a couple of good results have now dropped off the end of the 4 year period.

just seen, scotland go ahead of us by 1 place...
win x match importance x strength of opposition x confederation strength weights...
wales points drop from 619 - 591 rank 50
scotland increase from 581-599 rank 49
i still dont get it... norway were ranked 24 and we battered them and cyprus were ranked 126 and scotland win 2-1 yet we lose points and they gain...
still think the rankings are shit....

its quite simple, we beat norway and got for example 10, the points are accumilated over the last 4 years and are worth 100% in the last 12 months 50% between 12-24 months, etc etc.
so basically if we made 10 points aginst norway we have lost 20 points from previous wins that have 'elapsed' in the last 4 years.
basically we need to keep winning. next month we could go up in the rankings as we probably wont drop any points as we havent won too much in the last 4 years for them to be deducted

It has its pros and cons. If Wales were a pretty solid team in qualifying, but then had a complete disaster of a campaign, the fall down the rankings would be nowhere near as drastic under the current system than it would under a 'live' system

Ah dont worry about it.
Once we go with team GB there will be nothing to rank.
