My FA Cup Round 1 Experience

Sat Nov 12, 2011 7:43 pm

Took the 2 older boys to our local non-league team (Salisbury City) today for their fa cup round 1 tie v the mighty Arlesley Town. Paid £19 to get (£13 for me and £3 for boys) which is less than i paid to watch us v Burnley in Carling Cup! Got in and the tannoy bloke announced due to crowd congestion there would be a 15 minute delay. Unbelievable considering that the crowd was 1200 with 50 or so visitors.

The game was mediocre in 1st half-the one thing that was good apart from Salisbury's opening goal was the sheer hard work of the 22 on the pitch. The ref was shit but nothing new there. Salisbury took the lead in 1st 20 minutes with an absolute screamer. Arlesley equalised following some shocking defending by Salisbury-the goal was scored by Dean Sinclair who i remember playing for Charlton a few years ago.

The 2nd half was poor as well with Salisbury getting a 2nd from the penalty spot after a blatant shove. Salisbury's 3rd came late on with a great counter attack.

About the only other moment of note was the bloke stood behind me watching his son playing for Salisbury. The man in question was Dave Webb-those older than me will remember him playing for Chelsea in the 70s...

If Salisbury get through round two. Could they handle a big tie or would they have to switch it?
If they played Saints, Swindon, Aldershot or even us - it. Would be massive for them

They could handle it. The ground holds about 3500-4000. They played Forest at home a few years ago. They will play Port Vale or Grimsby in Round 2.

Gareth.
Yes it was scored 2 in his last 3 starts, but their squad is so weak, he is totally on his own up front.
Plymouth had 6,500 v Stourbridge, I heard your match had to be delayed due to crowd congestion. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

1299 people and there was a 15 minute delay!!!!

A policeman and policelady to control the crowd. At HT i went for a pint with some friends and the 2 coppers were busy keeping an eye on 10 or so lads (think they were Chelsea/Salisbury) who were out for a few beers and no more. Looking forward to seeing the next round v Port Vale/Grimsby. My other choice is to go 10 miles further to watch Totton v Bristol Rovers.
