Is Football dying for the smaller Clubs ?

Thu Nov 10, 2011 8:19 am

Following Carl's update last night, regarding the academies at every Football Club, and the new structure that is being implemented from next season, where the Academies are rated as levels 1-4. Level 1 is the top Premiership sides and the rest rated between 2-4, and those Premiership sides that are rated level 1 can take any player they want at any time from any one of the Clubs from level 2-4 with the maximum compensation level set to just 134k. What are every one's views on this as it could spell in my opinion the death sentence for many smaller Clubs, stealing from the poor to give to the Rich.

Under this rule we would not of been able to keep Aaron Ramsey and sold him for 5 Million, Ipswich would not of been able to have developed Connor Wickham and sold him for a vast profit, And Southampton would not of been able to use the talents and been able to sell Gareth Bale and Theo walcott.

This route of finding talent has been the livelihood and the saviour of all small Clubs and now that is being taken away from all Clubs apart from the Top teams in the Premiership. Not only will this be catastrophic for all Clubs but there supporters will never be able to dream that one Day there Club will be able to make it to the big time, And to be fair even though we may support Cardiff or some Hartlepool or Bristol Rovers for example, even though it is just a dream to many of fans at smaller Clubs what would be the point now ? The top Clubs will get bigger and richer, raiding Clubs of players for a Maximum of just 134k when these Clubs can sell them for millions.

To me it is Killing our game and will eventually see In my opinion perhaps a two league system with the top teams in the Premiere and the rest in the Premiere cannon fodder for these top teams, and the League below will be the teams that are left with minimal support as the new generation of supporters will only support the big 5 or 6 Clubs. The way Football is being run at the moment and the way Football Fans are treated as second class citizens i am starting to fall out of love with the beautiful game, that i have loved since a small Child. This new system in my opinion is only the beginning of the end for Club Football with only a handful of top Clubs surviving. And the only winners are the armchair supporters who claim to support the big teams with there feet up watching there so called team on the TV.
What is everyone's opinion of this ?

Craig, I disagree, we need small Clubs.

Small Clubs in my opinion are as much needed as the Premier League Clubs, remember we were a small Club once.

What is your point in that remark ? "it is what it is !!" So if CCFC went bust your attitude would be "it is what it is" ? :o Are you are the type of fan (if you go) that excepts being treated as a second class citizen because you go to watch a game of football because "it is what it is". Have you thought out where it is heading for small Clubs, and as Annis said we was a small Club once but we certainly aint one of the big one's either. And in a blink of the eye we could be one of those small Clubs again. But what the hell it "it is what it is" :? :? :? :?

So if we have another Aaron Ramsey and Manure or there ilk come along and take him away for peanuts you would be happy with that would you ? It wouldn't bother you. Someone is definitely not looking at the bigger picture. If Football goes the way i think it will i will leave it behind forever. Some people like to be rolled over on and you must be one of them !! :o

The fact of the matter is, this new rule was put to the vote to all football league chairmen, it got a majority yes.......

a lot of chairmans voted for it because the top PL sides said they won't help fund the lower leagues academys which was happening previously so basically blackmail. I think this rule is going to change the current football league system into one league... the premier league because think about it how many clubs are already struggling never mind with one of their biggest source of income being taken away.

Only football league chairmen, not premier league chairmen had the vote.

I suppose the flip answer is there are only so many youngsters that the big 4 could poach and not all those youngsters will make the grade, in which case £134k would be dam good business.

I still agree it is wrong but there are other things to consider like whether the youngster wants the move but like all things we have to adapt and make the system work for us.

I think the smaller clubs have a right to keep their youth players. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
