About time Wales pulled out of this agreement as the only country in this agreement it suits is, England.

Ireland are not in this agreement and they are the other country that benefit, check their historic world rankings compared to Wales, Scotland & N Ireland.

Ireland are not one of the 'Home Countries'

Thats why Ireland are not in the agreement and thats why Ireland benefit from quite a few English born Internationals each year.

Id hate the thought of just anyone playing for Wales, just because they can. Its
my country. Vinnie Jones had a Welsh Grandad and actually bothered to learn our
anthem. Welsh blood, fine. If you lived here all/most your life and FEEL Welsh
then thats fine too. But 'Country of Convenience' no ta :ayatollah:

Why would you be happy for English players playing for Wales ?. No passion only playing for themselves,It sounds you are another person who wants success no matter what the cost. Give me the young Dragons any Day of the week who are proud to have the Dragon on there chest.

The residency doesn't apply because Whitts is a British citizen with a British passport. The home nations have an agreement to only choose players either born in that country, whose parents are born in that country or whose grandparents were born there.

Technically any player born in England, Wales, Scotland or N.Ireland can play for any of the UK countries because they have a British passport which covers all of those countries, they have however agreed not to use this rule as it would open up a can of worms, i.e. before he had played for Wales Giggs or Bale could have played for England.

This can be seen for example by Carlo Cudicini. Cudicini hasnt been capped by Italy but has been in the UK long enough to qualify for a British passport, if he decided to take one then he could play for any one of Wales England Scotland or Northern Ireland - he may never have even been to some of those countries but is techincally eligible for their national side.

Also Matt Le Tissier and Graham Le Saux were from the channel islands. Both could have played for Wales if they had wanted to because any player from the channel islands is not assigned to a country so it's up to them to choose who they play for.

If anyone believes that there'd be a problem retaining the Welsh national team as a separate nation because some players agree to play in the GB team, then using any player from the home nations on the grounds of residency would make that arguement look trivial.

I don't think for one minute that the Olympic team threatens our national side, IMO its just scaremongering from the FAW who are fearful of losing any kind of inherited "power" they have - deserved or not. Christ, you can't expect committee members to have to actually pay for jollies abroad now can you. The very possibility of that sends shivers down their spines & they're playing on people's nationalism to gain support.

But if we could select anyone born in the UK it would play right into the hands of the countries and associations that believe we should amalgamate with the English, Scottish & NI FA's.
