I helped my bro in law sort his out a couple of years ago, admiral did the best deal, basically everyone else was charging 3 grand and admiral charged him £900 BUT they were able to charge that by giving him a crazy £600 excess! Still it's an option if you don't drive like a complete and utter f'wit

You'll probably pay an arm and a leg where ever you go these days.Feel sorry for the sensible ones but alas you'll be paying for the ones who drive around like its a 3 inch extension on their penis.

Quinns Direct W Reg Fiesta named driver for my 17 year old £1250 (3rd party f+f) first year then dropped to under £700 second year.
Not known to be the best if you have a bump, but if you drive a banger you are legal so 3rd party only for these.

I only learnt last year (I'm 28, yes I know !!!) got a 1.8 petrol focus fully comp for £800, which I thought was cheap, just bought a 1.9d van for work and they want £1200, due to the fact I've not had my
License a full year !! Year is up next week , just got a quote for £600 on van, but of I want it to start this week it's £1200, nuts !!!

If you can live with a few constraints, such as limiting your mileage, how late you drive the car and having a 'Smart Box' installed (monitors driving behaviour such as if you exceed the speed limit), you could reduce costs significantly. See some tips below
• Take the Pass Plus course of post driving test lessons. A number of insurers offer premium discounts / accelerated no claim bonus build up if you do.
• Install a 'Smart Box (some insurers will do this as standard for young drivers) which monitors driving behavior.
• See if you can increase the level of any voluntary excess on the policy. A larger excess may mean a lower premium but bear in mind that if you may have to pay out if do have a crash. Many insurance companies will add compulsory excess onto younger driver's policies and this could all add up if your voluntary excess is high.
• A small number of companies, will offer reduced premiums if young drivers undertake to limit the times of day they use the car - i.e. they do not drive at night. 50 percent of all accidents by young drivers happen at night (from ABI).
• Shop around to get the best deal - even for young drivers the premiums will vary. Ring the company direct to discuss your quote and to ask if there are ways you can reduce the premium. It's worth contacting a broker who could access a wider range of insurers (not just the main ones), some of which may offer cheaper insurance for younger drivers.
• Beef up your car security. Thatcham approved car alarms are recognized by all car insurers and most will discount your premium if you have these fitted.
• Stick To The Speed Limit
No points on your license means cheaper insurance.
• Park Securely
If you have a garage then use it. Your car is less likely to be stolen from your garage or from your drive than if it is parked in the street. Insurance companies will recognize this and offer cheaper car insurance premiums.
• Buy Your Car Insurance Policy Online
Buying online is cheaper as the insurance company has fewer costs to cover so most car insurance companies offer a discount if you buy online via their web site.
• Including an older named driver on a young person's policy may help bring down the cost.
Good luck!

Admiral. Put your mother and/or Dad on your insurance and it comes right down. If you do it the other way say you go on their insurance it is illegal if the car is owned by you, some people do this, but they would have a shock if they were to have an accident, it could turn out quite costly. and its more expensive than the first way also your still collecting your all important NO CLAIMS BONUS the way I first told you.

Elephant have always been good for me. Like Canton said above put people on your insurance. I have the max number of people on my insurance (4 or 5 I think) and it dropped every time I added a name

my son got his car insured thru compare market sites then thru elephant.com. they gave him 10 months cover for £2000, however, on renewal i did some more shopping around and got his next insurance for £820, thats for a corsa 1.0. Girls are usually cheaper they say, but its the first year thats the killer for kids these days. put down peopel on the quote forms online and keep amending them til you find the most competitive price, thats what i did! Finally dont have a bloody accident cos then they really hammer them! Excess is £500 usually for cars worth a garnd!! Good luck

Try the Co-op Insurance they are brilliant although you would still be looking at £1,200+
Otherwise try and find newer insurers who are trying to break into the market. They usually offer good deals (for the first year at least)
