laughing at swansea last season

Sun Nov 06, 2011 5:20 pm

We laughed when they signed brendan rodgers...
We laughed because their lack of transfers and lack of money spent etc.
We laughed that they didnt have hardly any big names in their squad
We laughed at the start of last season when their target was mid table and the play offs a bonus.
We laughed at them thinking they could win a few games in the premiership..

the club is run on a budget no panic spending or poor loan players .. brendan rodgers knows the budget and built the team accordingly with a mix of old and young players all willing to fight for each other and the club..

But look where they are and they are doing well and thats the exact way our club is doing things this season and malky's ways of doing things is a carbon copy of the way brendan rodgers works.

do we really need to bring in 2,3,4 or 5 players?? i dont think so well not until january anyway..malky seems very happy with the squad he has so lets sit back and enjoy watching what team he puts out in front of us... because this is going to be a great season.. :ayatollah:

The Jacks brought in loans during January. Borini and Britton as far as I remember.

Borini didn't sign until the middle of March and Britton was not a loan.

To compare the job MM and Brendan did is off the marl though. MM had to come in and bring in a host of players from the lower leagues, Scotland and other countries.

Taylor and Sinclair, were the only really used signings in the summer.

Moore and Britton from winter transfer window too.

Borini too, I know they may say Emnes but it was a really short period of time for him. So he had to sign 5/6 players from a settled team and playing style.

MM came in and has signed or used(not including a back-up goalie): twelve players that didn't feature last season, that after the loss of our best players (apart from Whitts and McNaughton).

I don't disagree with you wildly because it's a good post, but in some ways MM has done a more astounding job than BR, if they hadn't been where they were throughout the season you'd have felt he was under achieving.

We are two points lower than Swansea were at this point last season, in a far tougher league with victories over 4 of the top 7 (The other is a draw and we haven't played Boro yet).

Luke Moore also came in January. Not that he made much of an impact.

I believe our club is heading in the right direction as well, haven't seen a City team so together and playing for each other as much as they are this season, it's got to be down to the manager and his backroom staff and I really enjoy my visits to watch the City now which I couldn't say the same for the previous 2 or 3 seasons.

You are on a good run at the moment, but i think it's a poor league compared to last years.
I stand by what i said at the start of season
think you'll end up around 7th to 9th.

BR built on the previous successes of roberto and sousa and even kenny jacket who did sign a few of those you made it last year i believe. we on the other hand sacked a manager for his faliure and have to almost start again. he is doing a grest job atmo way beyond all expectations.

Indeed. A lot of credit goes to our board.

disagree mate, i think this year its a much tougher league than last yr... west ham down, birmingham , teams like southampton who have come up , leicester spending big, boro, reading and hull all improving squads on last yr.. derby also...

GOOD POST :ayatollah:
Im a little bored of hearing we need this we need that. We have totally changed the whole feel of the club, we have had to change near enough a hole squad. People who complain about what we are seeing at the moment from top to bottom wind me up. If there is a loan player out there a pacey wide man great, but I dare say there isnt. I will use Dyer and Sinclair as examples if a player of there like is available on loan who can add to our squad great, but I would rather stick with what we have than go down the old route of 6 loans, 4/5 of them being shit. :ayatollah:

The thing with Swansea City F.C the chairman, the directors, the money man (Travel House, Martin Morgan) are all from Swansea and have supported Swansea City F.C all their lives, theres not many clubs in any of the leagues can say that. They had/have a plan and stuck to it....lifes a marathon lads not a sprint.

I'm sure I read somewhere the only 2 clubs in the black are Swansea City F.C & Arsenal

Agree with most of your points but Reading have hardly improved on last years squad, they've lost Shane Long and Matt Mills, their 2 best players.

A lot of Cardiff fans look ridiculous for some of the Jack comments we have come out with but it would have been the other way round had we gone up and they didn't.

If we go up I would like the Jacks to stay there tbh. Plus Joe Allen and Neil Taylor are players Wales need in just the right positions. If they could just find a cracking Welsh striker who could play up front on his own or indeed if we could.

The rugby songs are traditional Welsh songs a bit like Men of Harlech. I would love them being boomed out around the ground. It's the sort of thing Sam Hamamm was trying to tap into. That would be far far better than silence.

Credit where its due and all that however I think BR got to reap the rewards of a sound footing at Swansea both on, and especially off, the pitch. However, the current board do business on their terms and dont sell off their best players.

We were living hand to mouth thanks to Sams total disgregard for the club, and im sure if we had a more sound footing and were allowed to keep the likes of Loovens, Johnson, Ramsey, Jerome, Ledley, Gunter.etc together we could now be where we want to be.

I also dont buy this "Malky had to build from scratch" like its some kind of surprise with CCFC, it was the same for Jones, he had to build a team every year whilst his best players got sold to keep the club afloat. Someone put a stat up earlier in the year, and only 1 of his 6 season with us, did he change less than 10 players in the summer.

We got to the play-off final in 08/09 after being on a transfer embargo and with a squad of 22 players.
