Hi Pal, I got back last week from a weeks holiday there, Me and the mrs were just relaxing, so didn't do any diving or excursions, just some snorkeling off the hotels jetty and we had a fantastic hotel called stella Di Mare which was absolutely brilliant and I would recomend to anyone.

In terms of money, they love dollars, when i first went there over 10 years ago, thats all they wanted, now though Egyption currency is gladly accepted anywhere.
I would have to say that Nama Bay is bigger and therefore much tackier than 10 years ago, it is a pain in the arse running the gauntlet shop keepers and taxi drivers, bar and restaurant owners, but hey thats Egypt.
The standard and choice of restaurants is still pretty poor in Nama Bay. You are literally just as well eating in Hard Rock cafe and the like, we ate in Little buddha a couple of times, as the sushi was very good. The Roof Top Camel bar, is still the best bar in Nama. Enjoy :ayatollah:
P.S Neither of us had any stomach or sickness issues, so it can be done!

They will take egyptian pounds or dollars no trouble.
You do get a lot of hassling but just ignore them. Some of them come out with classic english phrases such as Asda price, lovely jubbly, etc just to get your attention. SOme of them are hilarious.
One of them shouted' Nottingham Forest' at me once!?? 'Youve got no chance butt', I said. 'Sut mai boyo' he said back! classic

Best tip I can give you is not to book excursions with the holiday reps. They will tell you not to trust anyone else, charge you through the nose and then put you with a company who is around the corner. Just go straight to the tour operator who will charge you half the price.
I went to Cairo one year and Luxor the next, fantastic. Well worth seeing. People will tell you that the pyramids are right by pizza hut etc but they are still incredible and well worth the visit. But go by plane not bus!!!

I love the place.

went a few years ago, loved it out there. didn't do the excursions but went quading-do the sunrise 1 as its cooler that time of day.
shopkeepers can be a pain but just say a firm no. was in a party of 10 and only 1 had the belly(my missus) and we were there for 2 weeks. snorkelling is amazing off most hotel beaches so didn't need to go diving.

Very very hot. But always argue for the prices of the things your buying, you can get it for dirt cheap that way.

They see £, € and $ as all the same so you will get better deal with $.
No point shopping around as legally they all have to use the same exchange rate (days/hours of walking about to find out that little gem). Just take £ and exchange over there. Also got a good rate with my debit card in machine, but watch your own bank (especially Barclays) for their charges.

Hardly anybody there these days (some hotels 10% occupancy levels) so haggle with reps etc over prices, as they are desperate for your business (and I mean desperate).

If going to Cairo use the bus, 4 - 6 long hours (take your own booze, and don't worry about police confiscating it, or searching the bus as they do with the football). If you go by plane and it is delayed you have wasted your money.

Pyramids worth seeing but f****** arabs trying to sell you shit or con you out of money will p*** you off.
Don't go on their horses/camels as they may take you out into desert and leave you there, unless you pay a return ride fee (honestly it happened to someone, funny as f*** as it wasn't me).

I met your brother in law when we were out there in march in the Camel club top bloke. Sharms a great place and december is my fav month to go hot in the day and cooler in ther night. Soho sq is worth a visit and the star gazing trip. Most people get the dreaded stomach bug egypt is known for it and its not the fault of the hotels which most people seem to blame (imodium doesent work only the local drug called antinal which you can get in any chemist) having said that ive been to Sharm many times and never had the bug. Which hotel are you staying in ?

Hi Maesteg Blue, Me & the mrs went there three years ago and renamed it Sharm El Shits. I had a chicken salad on my 2nd day there & found myself rigged up to a drip in my hotel room for the next 3days. It was the worst I've ever felt in my life so I strongly recommend you take a good supply of Clarks pies, at least then you know your ass will be ok. Other than that the hotels and beaches are spot on & there's a British bar down the road In Narma Bay that show every Premier league game(live) on a Saturday. Hope I Havant put u off cos its a really nice place, just don't eat the shit they serve you up.
