FAW - out of touch with reality.

Thu Nov 03, 2011 9:03 pm

I support any Welsh player who wants to play for team GB at the Olympics.

What do the FAW know about anything? - If they had their way, Cardiff, and Swansea would be playing in the League of Wales instead of the best league pyramid in world football.

They have even gone as far as slating our Welsh captain Ramsey in the media.

I am all for this British side, as long as its only for the Olympics :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

But i can see the FAW point of view. And remember the Scottish and Irish Fa's have the same view. It could spell the end for the home nations

what i dont understand about it all though is that it don't seem to bother the english fa. Surely they'll lose thier "identity" as well as ours

I talk to Rambos grandfather on a weekly basic...Top Man Terry :ayatollah:
He told me weeks ago that both Aaron and Gareth Bale want to be a part of this team.
Also that there was a rule that the team would not have any player who was to play for England in the Euros.
So 1 or 2 more from the Wales team maybe in the squad,if this was allowed to go ahead, along with 3 players over 21.
Aarron's biggest worry might come from his club and AW...But i hope they both get the chance to play for team GB.

Anyone who believes that Blatter and FIFA will honour their promise that Welsh players taking part in the GB team will not affect the Wales national team are dreaming.

FIFA has been proven to be untruthful and corrupt.

Whatever Blatter has "promised" will mean nothing in 4 or 5 or 10 years time when he has been replaced and the knives come back out to minimise the British influence.

Team GB is crap.
who will be in charge?
will there be equal representation from all home nations?
how will the allocation be decided?
will the strongest team be picked (if YES then call it team england)?
has the team any credibility?
what pressure will managers be under to release players for this team?

In my humble opinion it is rubbish, I will never support team GB................christ it sounds like a bad childrens action film....go team GB go!

Spot on mate! This is madness! There is no evidence whatsoever that FIFA want to do away with the home nations! Indeed they have even privately given their assurances to faw and Sfa that team gb will have no effect on them! While some in FIFA MAY want to end the home nations it would take two thirds of the FIFA members voting in favor for it to happen, something which would never happen as they know it would start a football civil war, cost millions in legal fees and take years in the courts!

I think the Olympics is going to be fantastic! It will be a superb opportunity for our top young players to get major tournament experience. Some say it's a Mickey mouse competition not worth taking seriously but the home nations thought the same about the world cup in 1930 as they thought it was beneath them. It took until 1950 for a home nation to play in it! The same happened in the European cup as even though it started in 1955 the football league banned then champions Chelsea from participating as they thought foreign football was inferior!! If we embrace the Olympics now we can make it a great tournament which we will remember for a lifetime!

As for the FAW it appears they are trying to belittle and ostracize our only2 world class players , Bale and Ramsey! If they succeed in turning welsh fans against them them they should hang their heads in shame! Is there any Welshman who wouldn't celebrate if Rambo scored the winning goal in the Olympic final?

Totally agree with the above :ayatollah:

totally against the GB team and for many reasons.

one that strikes me that nobody mentions is this.

we have bale and ramsey two wrold class players in the making. they play for GB and inevitably will be stars in the team and catch headlines across the world. they think wow its great playing with these players on an international level.

so now our future prospects, youngsters and players will now see this aqnd envy this and less players would chose to represent wales and more for england to play for a stronger side.

and thats if the home nations stay seperate after this

1 agree 100% aslong as FIFA guarantee that the Wales football team will carry on in the future , I cant believe that Wales fans are planing a protest during the game showing their disgust for Rambo and Bale . They will be in block 105 of the Canton , Ive got my tkt now in 114 Ninian !

Nice to start a debate for once!

I don't think some people realise what a big thing it is for the UK to host the Olympics - for most of us it will never occur again in our lifetime. I'm very proud to be Welsh, but I'm also proud to be British, and on this occasion being British takes priority!

Whether FIFA, UEFA or whoever renege on the decision to allow separate countries from the UK is, in my opinion, likely to become irrelevant over the next decade or so. The old football associations are under the misapprehension that they still control the game - this is no longer the case. Money now controls the game, and more specifically the big clubs. International football is no longer the highest form of the game - the best teams in the world are not international sides, but club sides.

I can easily see the big European clubs breaking away to form their own league, taking the bulk of the TV money with them. And before you say that can't happen, remember the Kerry Packer cricket breakaway in the 1970s. The establishment ostracised the world's top players, and tried to carry on without them. Unfortunately, a sport where the world's best players are clearly playing somewhere else is not going to survive for long, and the face of professional cricket was changed forever. I can see football going the same way.

I just hope we can get a slice of the action, perhaps as the top Welsh Club in a European league!

The Mil Stad will never get a major UEFA final for 2 reasons ....

1. The pitch there is shocking .

2. No car parking facilities .

Which is a shame coz everything else is set in place .

I agree that the pitch is rubbish, but they've held FA Cup finals there, Rugby World Cup matches there and Football World Cup Qualifiers there, so I don't think that you're opinion is right in this case! :ayatollah:

The problem is remember the vote we had earlier in the year to have law raising powers at the Welsh Assembly. The Welsh Assembly stated that they wouldnt bring in a law for tax rasing powers. What is now happening a few months down the line - yes you guessed it, now they want to bring it in.
If this is the case then surely the same could happen with the UK having just 1 football team. It will be the start of things to come. Look at the Welsh Assembly case for instance.
Not only that who has stated that Bale and ramsey would be in the GB team anyway, what happens with injuries etc....

I maybe wrong but i thought one of the main reasons we couldn't hold a UEFA final at the Mill Stad was because of lack of conference facilities?

I'm sure you are right Jimbo and if my memory serves me rightly, that's why the WRU wanted the Blues out of the Arms Park and into CCS. They want to redevelope CAP by filling in Glanmore's Gap (increasing the capacity to 80,000) and build conference facilities on the land.

Tony, that's definitely what I heard but that seems to have died a death by all accounts. Crazy really as the Mill Stad is a great venue, fit for any final!

I cannot understand what all the fuss is about.

This is a one off event.

I really hope the welsh lads stick to their guns, get selected and with some scots, irish and english players win the event.

The fuss is that the home nations have a historical (unbalanced it must be said) representation on important FIFA committees which many other countries are envious of.
Making 4 countries who usually vote together into 1 will be won way of venting their envy.
It has been said that the African nations are always seeking ways to promote African countries - and how better to make space at the table than to get rid of 3 of their "colonial masters".

There are arguements for and against but at the end of the day I do not trust FIFA (their promises are meaningless) and if there is 1% chance that Wales could lose their team it is not a chance worth taking.

Re: FAW - out of touch with reality.

Fri Nov 04, 2011 3:45 pm

I was dead against it as it could be the gap that those dirty FIFA bastards would use against us in future to stop us having a team but now im not so sure.

If FIFA tried to do this, countries like Andorra, San Marino, Faroes and even Israel would be under scrutiny.

Also, we have a GB athletics team for olympics and world champs, but wales england, scotland n ire in commonwealth games.

2 players from Wales to join a GB olympic team for 1 tournament as its in the UK is growing on me.
The experience would be great for the players as Bellars said.

Im from a 'welsh not british' background but think those players should have a chance to perform at the highest level - it could be a good thing not just a bad thing.

As long as the FAW legal team draft up a letter of consent -agreed by FIFA, then it would be very hard to let them use this as a lever against a Welsh national side.

This topic getting far to much publicity athletes etc train for 4 years to achieve there dream of competing in the olympics we have are own olympics it's called the world cup
