What future does football have in general

Sun Oct 30, 2011 7:46 pm

The game and business has changed in so many ways , how do you see it in 10 years time ?

Re: What future does football have in general

I think within ten years we will see many clubs go bankrupt.
If we can cut costs now we can be one of a few who survive.

I think atsmosphere will be wiped out completely in 10 years.

Everyone will be sat there with headphones on watching the game from the stand with commentery.

I honestly believe that.

Its as good as that in the middle of the Ninian Stand already, anyone who shouts anything during the game gets funny looks from those around them. People are in and out to the toilet every 10 minutes and there are loads of women at the match.

I expect to get slammed for that last comment, and I know I shouldnt generalise, but there are loads of women sat near to me and all they do is moan if someone stands up, dares shout or generaly acts like a bloke at the match.

I saw 3 women have a go at a fella in the Ninian Stand at the Barnsley game for daring to shout, come on city. bloody wake up, after Barnsley scores their third goal for swearing :|

I think it will be more like the older days in 10 years.
I think the money will be gone and most the clubs. It will be like the banks

It is dying at the CCS. I'm probably calling it a day after this season, due to the kind of crap you've experienced above.

Shame, because it used to be a good day out following the City, home and away.

I can see the average working man being priced out of going to the games. A European league is almost certainly going to happen with all the tv money pumped in to that leaving the so called smaller teams playing in one or two leagues. That'll be the ones who survive that is. Really sad to see the game we all love going this way.

I think we will have 20 clubs in one league with no relegation. I am not nicking this off these foreigners who have suggested that over the last week or so. I have believed this for quite a few years.

I expect these teams to be definates in this league:

Man U
Man C
Arsenal
Chelsea
Tottenham
West Ham
Newcastle
Leeds
Liverpool
Everton
Birmingham
Aston Villa
Sheff Wed
Sheff Utd
Southampton

I know some of these teams are out of it at the moment but they have potential to be huge when at the top as history as shown.

The 5 outside clubs I think are sleeping giants that will become huge if they could get there are:
Cardiff
Preston
Burnley
Derby
Nottingham Forest.

IMO it all changed after Hillsborough, and the change to all seater stadia. Football has become sanitised. The ordinary working person is being priced out of the game, especially in the premier league, also prices at some grounds in the championship are ridiculous (leeds being a prime example). The money coming into football from abroad is ruining football, there is talk of having no relegation, the call for a european league is getting stronger. I feel football is being destroyed, and the small clubs and i include ccfc in that will go out of business

The Premier league is stronger know than it's ever been, and the fact that you can sit in your armchair and be entertained by watching games like Arsenal/Chelsea,Utd/City and Spurs/QPR means the product is better than ever.

That's a valid point. Whilst I enjoy going to live games albeit not as they were I agree , when it comes to the above I love an afternoon in front of the box watching the Premiership. Can the two be married together when the time comes as a City fan ?

Yes , agree Stadia has created sterile atmosphere for sure. Foreign money ? did it not actually save our Club from going out of business ? Although it appears it's Premiership or bust anyway .

Agree it will not be long before the top 4 or 5 break away into a European Super League and the Champions League will become the European version of the FA Cup.

Where it then leaves lower league Clubs is any bodies guess , but businesses that don't make profit can't last forever .

Football changed forever in my opinion the day the bbc showed the first live premier match. Lets be honest when you watch the City and then an hour later watch what Spurs served up then it's no wonder fans are critical of the City performance.

Yes I agree foreign money savd us, however I am also worried what timescale they have for us getting to the premier, and what happens if we fail?

No idea what football will be like in ten years' time. My earliest football memory is England winning the World Cup. First City game in 1968. Personally, I have enjoyed every minute. It's the best game in the world. :ayatollah: It's the unexpected that makes football what it is, simply brilliant. That's why all the other 'sports', especially the egg-chasers, are so jealous.

Very valid. The foreign money in Championship Clubs is invested for that one reason , Premiership.

I totally agree, the greatest sporting event for me was the 66 World cup i can still remember the excitment of seeing the likes of Pele for the first time, and what made it so exciting was that all these teams and players were not excessible to anyone outside of their own countries.

I doubt we will ever see times like that in Football again. We will go more now the way of American Football .

It's already happening Sky know show every Barca and Madrid game home and away,Liverpool are trying to sell the rights to all their home games. In ten years time if not sooner you will be able to buy a season ticket for individual teams in the Premier league, were that will leave the rest of us God only knows.

Each one with have their own channel like MUTV etc and show each game live.

Games aren't shown live on current club channels.Once they are then not only will plastics tell you who they support, they'll proudly show you their season ticket.

I agree and it's not far away either I'm afraid. Will overcome Clubs needing bigger Stadiums too. Chelski are struggling to get one . Will they be the first ?

I think if your one of the elite you'll fill your stadium every week but it's obvious that matchday revenues are a drop in the ocean really and the way forward for these clubs will be the opportunity to sell games Worldwide the revenue produced would be unbelievable. How long before the first million pound a week footballer?

Re: What future does football have in general

Will they then get exclusive TV rights too ? Sell it all over the world.

I can see many teams merging to survive, whether the fans would ever agree will be a stumbling block, just look at rugby in Wales, Pontypridd v Neath on a wet wednesday night in the old 'merit' table 15000 fans crammed into sardis road, along come the leagues, then the regions and now 4 teams can not attract what Pontypridd had on that cold wet wednesday night in their new 'modern' disenfected stadiums

our very own gwynn even played in those games, and he will tell you the atmosphere was electric :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
