SHOULD HAVE HAD A SELL ON CLAUSE FOR RAMBO

Sun Oct 30, 2011 12:52 pm

A 25% sell on clause would have netted us a lot of money in about 2 years me thinks. We had two of the biggest clubs at the time interested (and Everton) and we settled for 5 million quid. Criminal.

No you couldn't. You would say it about Rambo because he's going to be sold for 30 million plus to Man City/Real Madrid or Barcelona.

I mean in normal circumstances we would be looking to sell a player but this lad had Arsenal and Man Utd vying for his signature and was obviously something special and not only did we not start an auction but we didn't put a sell on clause on. Especially when he went to Arsenal the well known seller of their best players.

well its obvious that we were so keen to get some money in that we would of sold him for anything. if we didnt need to sell we could of got alot more for him and also a sell on clause. but the point is we had to sell and sell quick.

correct arsenal offered 5 million in one payment and ridsdale bit their hand off.
5 million at the time was not bad considering jones did not consider him good enough to start in the fa cup final yet 3 months later wenger considered him good enough to play champions league.
maybe thats why jones struggles to get work with judgement like that along with thinking bywater was a competent goalkeeper

I agree with all of that Steve, which makes it all the more puzzling why Ledley & McCormack also didn't follow in the same suit? Or were we led to believe????

The creditors weren't on top of us that year plus we sold Rog too. We were in a healthier position and didn't need to sell desperately like we did when we sold Kav and Gabbs/Collins.

I still maintain we should have held out for more and/or a sell on clause inserted.

£5 million up front was a good deal and the fact that Aaron was determined on joining Arsenal and not anybody else didn't really give us much bargaining power. The lad will be the next Gerrard without a doubt. Could Cardiff afford to have him injured or play a shocker in cup final when they knew due to the creditors chasing our arse big time that he needed to be sold quickly in the summer? :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

People going overboard on Rambo again.

Hes a good premiership player but not world class.

He was murdered by Spurs midfield just a couple of weeks back but now one good game against Chelsea and hes the next Gerrard

Agree to disagree :ayatollah:

Im not saying hes crap by the way, he is a fantastic footballer, especially for his age, but theres only Welshman in the world class bracket and thats Gareth Bale. IMO anyway.

Steam rolled against United earlier in the season as well. World Class players like Gerrard take them top games by the scruff of the neck and make the statement "im the best". Thats whats makes them world greats.

Do you mean like Ramsey did against Chelsea?

well considering it was back then the money for players were just about coming into the point where money means nothing no more but considering his age etc it was just about right.

If he was with us and he was 25-28 then fair enough we could get rid of him for more

Walcott, Chamberlain and Bale went for huge amounts of money. Maybe a little less down but potentially loads and included a sell on clause.

You know anything about football? Gerrard weren't as good as Aaron at that age, and he didnt have the injury he had. Gerrard is pure class and Aaron will be better in time

Yes I do, reading some of the post on this forum, more than most I would say.

Gerrard broke into the Liverpool team at 18 and in his first full season, at Aarons age, helped them to win 3 major trophies, then went to the euro finals with England, so that part of your post is well up for debate.

Gerrard is widely classed as the best all around midfielder to grace the premiership, he has far more strings to his bow (tackling, aggression, good header, short passes, long passes, goalscorer, free kick specialist) than what Rambo has, and IN MY OPNION Rambo will never be as good as Gerrard.

As I said Rambo is a good footballer, but doesnt strike me as going to be one of the worlds best in the way you could tell that from a young age, Ronaldo, Messi, Gerrard, Fabregas, were going to be.

World class to me is someone who performs brilliantly, and is one the best players on the pitch, every single game. I dont put Rambo in that bracket. Sorry.
