Carl, that Walesonline website is crap.

I dont bother reading your reports on there as it takes for ever and a day to just download one screen. They have the worse I.T setup I have ever seen and I have been involved in quite a few.

Any chance in the future you can copy and paste your article onto this site instead?

Good write-up, although I'm not a big fan of McPhail, due to his lack of defensive effort sometimes. No problem for me with the link. I'm using an Apple iMac, but I don't suppose that makes any difference in this case.

TWO excellent victories over Barnsley and Burnley were produced by two hard-working performances and they got the City buzzing for different reasons.

Barnsley arrived at Cardiff City Stadium with just one defeat in their previous nine games.

But, after an 80-minute performance which saw the Bluebirds on the front foot, the Yorkshire side were blown away by the free-flowing football, hard work and movement of the City players.

A commanding 5-1 lead was deserved and only in the last 10 minutes did we allow Barnsley a slim hope of somehow getting back into the game.

The two late goals highlighted the need for more defensive work, especially the need to try and stop crosses from reaching our penalty area.

Barnsley had only conceded seven goals in those previous nine games – and City could have easily have put eight or more on them but for the excellent goalkeeping of Luke Steele.

The 4-5-1 system that Malky Mackay is employing is paying dividends and, with the players he has to work with, I think it is the system we are likely to see often throughout the season.

Big changes were expected to be made against Burnley on Tuesday night in the Carling Cup, but Malky demonstrated how serious he is taking the competition.

He fielded a near full-strength first team with Tom Heaton given the nod in goal and Ben Turner rested after three games in seven days.

Anthony Gerrard was recalled and Joe Mason deservedly kept his place after replacing the injured Kenny Miller after his freak accident with man-mountain Turner in the Barnsley game.

Mason is looking a steal at £250,000 and his performances against Championship rivals in the last week are encouraging for the future.

The control, composure, touch and finish for the only goal of the game belied his tender years.

The football on display was scintillating on Tuesday and we can appreciate the effort all the players are giving wearing the jersey.

My stand-out player during the two games was the returning Stephen McPhail.

He orchestrated the midfield, kept everything neat and tidy and in the deeper role he was playing offered himself as an outlet for the defence and rarely gave the ball away.

Nobody deserves the applause more than McPhail. He has had his health problems and his season started much later than the others, but the importance of him in the team cannot be underestimated.

Tomorrow we start a run of three games against teams above us in the Championship.

These games will give us a good indication of where we are as a team.

Avoiding defeat at Leeds and Derby would be pleasing and my concern would be the high energy we play at.

It is a tall order to play two in-form teams in the space of a few days without the numbers to mix it up a little for each game.

Crystal Palace – the next visitors to the Cardiff City Stadium next Saturday – are a bit of a surprise package and currently sit in third position.

But this is the team I hope we pull out of the hat in the Carling Cup quarter-final draw this lunchtime.

Playing Palace or Blackburn Rovers would give us the best chance of making it to the semi-finals.

At Elland Road tomorrow we will be supported by only 300 fans after the vast majority decided to stay away at the expensive prices charged by Leeds United.

It’s £36 for an adult ticket and £25 for an under-16 and it’s a bridge too far for many Bluebirds supporters.

Coupled with an early 1.15pm kick-off and covered live on TV, hundreds of City fans have said enough is enough.

It's not your PC mine is the same on that site but no problems on any other. I think it has got worse since they started oploading the Football League review vidoes the site just cannot seem to handle them. I watch the same reviews on the main Cardiff City website with no problems.

Besides that a good article Carl although I think Steve McPhail will only get into the team when we are playing a 4-5-1 or in the last few games it has looked more like 4-1-4-1 to me. But Steve McPhail plays that role well no doubt about that.

I think everybody is getting carried away with Mcphail at the moment, He has two in the middle supporting him when we play the current system, When malky plays 442 he will not be playing as he is a weak link which has been shown over the last 5 years or however long he has been here.

My view on McPhail will never change, he is overrated, lazy and a total liability as his crime sheet proves.

He is also IMO the last link to the Ridsdale/Jones era and we should get rid of him so the slate is finally wiped clean.

Given his health problems Tony and his two recent performances don't you agree that he deserves the applause ?

Excellent article Carl, and I completely agree with all of your comments.

I also have no problem with loading the page, and have added a recommendation for the article.

Great work Carl

Carl his health problems are of no relevance whatsoever, if he is not healthy then what the f**k is he doing in the first XI?

His 2 recent performances were rubbish IMO and he contributed absolutely nothing (no goals, no assists, no anything really). At Leeds today he was awful, anonymous for most of the game and on the odd occasion he got the ball he somehow spun himself around and passed backwards (as he always does).

Further if he is the shield in front of the back four, then where the hell was he?

I'm sorry mate you will never convince he is any good.

The problem with that view is McPhail rarely passes forward and when he does he never finds a blue shirt. Against Burnley he lost possession on at least seven seperate occasions and as he hardly ever touches the ball, that's a hell of a lot of possession to conceded.
