Hes on the ball gets under pressure then turns around and hes still on the ball!
The guy is so comfortable and calm on the ball! A great midfielder he is! Slots in brilliant!
Fairplay deserves to be in the team at the moment1

Some people dont get him and dont rate him, ive always been a fan and think we are a much better team with him.
Any midfield with Witts, Cowie and McPhail will create chances....then you have Gunarrson who has been excellent and prob the best crosser in the division in Conway, lots of quality

Again I'm absolutely baffled by the remarks about McPhail. How many times last night did he lose possession? I counted at least 7 stupid passes that failed to reach a blue shirt and gave the ball away to Burnley.
Also when we broke for the goal the lazy c**t was so slow that he finished up being overtaken by our centre-backs before Mason struck the winner.
He also has a habbit of giving away free-kicks due to his terrible tackling and often they are from positions where the oppostion can shoot at goal and score e.g. the Charlie Adam equaliszer in the play-off final.
I just wish people would get their rose tinted glasses off when comes to that wanker, because he is a liability and has proven time and again he will cost us eventually.

Sorry that tw*t has cost us so many times in the past and experience tells me it WILL happen again. I just wish he would f**k off and leave us alone as I'm sick to death of his cock ups.

fair enough mate we are all entitled to our opinions in i just think that his experience could serve us well this year

Up until Saturday I tended to be in the Tony Blue school of thought on McPhail but having seen him play so well in the 5 man midfield I think Malky may have found himself a new player !
McPhail is too slow to play in a four man midfield but in the 5 man set-up with hard workers surrounding him his eye for a pass ripped Barnsley apart particulalrly with intelligent runners such as Mason and/or Miller to pick out.
It may be a flash in the pan but so far I'm warming to the idea and hope that Macca proves a few of us wrong

mcphail is the missing part of the puzzle for me,a lot of cracking young players in our team and its great to have someone with mcphails experience especially in a five man midfield which malky seems to prefer, especially last season jones expected mcphail and wittingham to play 3 different roles in the centre and thats why we were overrun and looked fragile at times
mcphail may go off the boil in the coming weeks but at the minute hes playing superb considering he was out for so long,

you may not like guy, but hes not a tw*t... thats a bit extreme yes he has been hot n cold, but mcphail is a genuine guy... and also 100% committed to cardiff city.. his last few performances have been pretty good and yes again he has lost possession but he also has created some key passes and tackles..
as said he does struggle in a 442 however in a 4-5-1 when you have gunnarsson and cowie to do all the running he fits in quite well..
what true cardiff fan would call one of our players a tw*t and wish they would f**k off???

Whilst I think Steve McPhail is a really nice guy and he has done really well to get back to match fitness given the issues hehas hilad to deal with I find myself more with Tony than the other posters. Do I think he is a tw*t,No, neither does Tony I believe but we all know that he is not the player you need in a battle.
The last couple of games have shown the best and worst aspects of Steve McPhail as a footballer in my opinion as for all the calmness he shows on the ball he does give it away a lot as well. Last Saturday and again last night he picked out some beautiful passes which opened up the opposition but he gave it away almost as much as Kev MacNaughton and that takes some doing.
Not having a go at Kev we all know he can't pass to save his life but his recovery pace and overall defensive play is fantastic, even attacking last night when he broke forward and outran their left winger was outstanding. Thats the difference between the two Kev has pace to burn in comparison.
Steve McPhail is a squad player now I'm in no doubt about that and if Miller and Gestede were fit he probably wouldn't make the match day squad. MM has used SM as the holding midfield player in the last two games and in my opinion the workrate of Cowie, Whitts, Gunnarsun and Cowie have helped create space for SM to operate. Does anyone really believe he has the pace and general phyiscal presense to operate within the team if we were playing 4-4-2 and not the 4-1-4-1 we have played the last two games.
Yes we all know he is a talented footballer but he is a squad player and no more than that in my opinion.

Hes not so good in a 4-4-2 a la last season and prior when we tended to get run over in midfield but hes great in a 4-1-4-1, 4-5-1 0r 4-3-3.

Agreed-he is a great passer and flourishes when there are 2 other central midfielders to help him out.

How people expect a player of championship level never to give the ball away i dont know. Even Xavi gives the ball away sometimes.

He gets it right far more than he gets it wrong and can produce passes that no-one else in this squad can, perhaps Whitts being the exception to that. Plus by having Mcphail in there allows Whitts to get forward more which can only benefit us.

Can't recall him giving the ball away once, let alone 7 "stupid" times!

Tony Blue Williams wrote:Also when we broke for the goal the lazy c**t was so slow that he finished up being overtaken by our centre-backs before Mason struck the winner.
Errm, he's been playing a holding midfielder type of role, which means he's supposed to stay back, to allow Whitts & Gunnarsson to get further forward!

Tony Blue Williams wrote:He also has a habbit of giving away free-kicks due to his terrible tackling and often they are from positions where the oppostion can shoot at goal and score e.g. the Charlie Adam equaliszer in the play-off final.
Errm, whilst I agree that he has given stupid free kicks away in the past, the Charlie Adam free kick, was awarded for a ball to hand incident, which shouldn't have been given!

Hardly a constructive criticism of one of our players, who although deserving of some criticism in the past, appears to have finally found his feet and niche in our side!

He;s played well for the last 2 games , but for so many of our games he's been utter shit and liability. He's always had the talent and nice to see him at last start to use it and pass the ball forward for a change , though we he wants to take free kicks quickly when there's no really advantage in doing so annoys me

Fully agree with you Tony, He is being carried at the moment in a midfield middle 3, He has shown over the years that he has a pass but he is too slow, too one sided and cant tackle for toffee.Watch him in the warm up his running as when he is jogging is his full pace.

Did mcphail run ur dog over or somethin? Why would u call 1 of our own players a tw*t, especially with wot he's been through, pathetic crusade against him IMO
Wed Oct 26, 2011 4:25 pm
He had a good game against Barnsley but he did nothing yesterday, most of his through balls went straight to a Burnley player, he's a sideways and backward player and you know that he's only one needless tackle on the edge of our own box from us conceeding a goal.
Wed Oct 26, 2011 4:44 pm
Did mcphail run ur dog over or somethin?

made me chuckle.
McPhail will give the ball a lot more than most but id bet his pass completion is still massively high. Yes he does pass wideways and backwards at times but its about keeping possession and keeping the ball moving. McPhail always gives players an option to take the ball off them.
You hear the phrase "help him out" a lot less what Steve McPhail is playing.
I tend to think some people dont like him because he cant be put into a category, he certainly isnt a defensive midfielder by nature and wont get you goals.

I agree they are the premier people with Mc at the start if their names in our squad. That is the only premier they are.
