When Earnie returned to wear the famous blue of City again many fans rejoiced at his signature.
Some felt that Earnies best days are behind him.
With Malky operating a 4-5-1 system a few times already this season and the fact it worked so well against Blackpool then again Versus Barnsley it would seem that Kenny Miller is the favoured lone striker by Malky.
When Miller was injured on Saturday, Malky brought on young Joe Mason and no doubt it was the correct decision.
I believe that Rudy Gestede is in front of Earnie in the pecking order also and with Malky wanting at least another striker to come in, where does that leave Earnie?
Do you agree with me that he is 4th choice striker?

Deffo mate i've found earnie frustratin to watch at times this season, but then he's popped up with a goal or gettin us that pen v ipswich, impact player for me now pal
Mon Oct 24, 2011 7:03 pm
I wish he could rediscover his pace, then he could play out wide ala v Leeds in that memorable match. And his first season at Forest, if I remember correctly, he did well in a '433' as a wide man. I doubt he can get back to that though
Mon Oct 24, 2011 7:03 pm
TBH it really looks like he is slipping down the pecking order, we never really have great success when players return to us, maybe the best so far was chops(1st couple of months)

Yes, i'd pick Miller over Earnshaw due to the fact Miller has been performing well, I don't think we've seen the best of Mason and Gestede yet but I agree, i'd pick Mason, Gestede and Miller over Earnshaw. Earnshaw is just a quality finisher when he gets the ball in the right place. Apart from the miss v England of course

Earnie is a natural goalscorer. He cant lead the line but is a good foil for a big centre forward. Also he is a cracking impact player for last 20minutes.

Sadly i have to agree with u Carl.
I hope that dont mean he moves on though as he will score for us.
He`s been offside a lot in recent games and when he had the opportunity on saturday of a one on one with that Barnsley left back Mcevely (sorry McDonkey) I personally expected him to skin him,and he struggled to get past him, as u say his pace isnt what it was!!!!!!!!!!!
Still love Earnie though tbh

He is a Impact player.... who isnt making an Impact.
Mon Oct 24, 2011 8:32 pm
It will depend on the system we play when he features. Had we had 2 up front on Saturday and Miller got injured then Zi think Earnie would have come on.
Mon Oct 24, 2011 8:59 pm
Give Earnie 1 season & then I'd Employ him to run up & down the sidelines with pom poms in his hand & everytime we score he can do summersaults for us
Mon Oct 24, 2011 9:04 pm
Not sure if Earnie is 4th, rather one of several. Malky will probably use his strikers as the situation requires. Earnie still scored an important goal at Burnley, when we were well and truly getting a hammering, with basically our only chance. He also got important goals against the Worzels and Doncaster, right place at the right time, to make both games safe. So don't wrt him off just yet

carl,if this is correct, you have to question why he was brought back,i myself as you know, sadly didnt want earnie back,we had the best of him and i would rather have good memories of earnie

Shouldn't have been resigned. I still think he can come in useful though.

Earnie's is nowhere near the player that he was. It was a mistake to sign him in my opinion unless it is on a low wage as a last fifteen minutes type sub. He looks a bit rubbish compared to the superb player he was.
However, I will always love him as he is a top lad and was a superb player in his time. I will never boo him or shit like that as he is a Cardiff legend and it isn't his fault we signed him. I hope he rediscovers his form or invents a new side to his game to compensate for his ageing.

I think your absolutely right about Earnie being 4th choice now and worse than that he will get lower when MM eventually signs another forward.
I have been waiting to see signs of the "Old Earnie" since the start of the season, but it's just not there. At the end of the game on Saturday he broke one on one with a Barnsley CB and I thought he would destroy the guy but, he didn't, in his day the "Old Earnie" would have destroyed him but what we have is a pale shadow of the player we all remember.
For me Earnie is and always will be a city legend but his best days are well behind him and his role now is as an impact player, if he can get a place on the bench, if we sign another forward and the others are fit Earnie won't even make the bench.
I thought Joe Mason was fantastic when he replaced Miller on Saturday, a performance full of energy, commitment and quality he looks a real prospect and is improving quickly. Another good signing by MM.

In my opinion Earnie needs to be played with a big man, I think him and Gestade/Parkin could do a job.
I'll like to see him and Parkin given a chance in a cup game and see what they are like. Earnie needs to play off the last defender and stop dropping deep, unfortunately in the formation we play he has too, therefore we will not see the best of him.
He is a CARDIFF CITY LEGEND though

Have to agree. Very impressed with Joe Mason with what I have seen. Hopefully will get a good run in the team. Seems to have a lot of drive in him. Also like to see Blake given a slot at center back to add some pace.

Didn't rate him the first time, his selfish attitude was at the expense of his co strikers e.g Thorne
Look at old footage from other clubs he hardly celebrated when a team mate scored. Billy Davies played a club record for him and dropped him soon after, Bryan Robson the same at WBA and now Malky has done the same. the reason he does not pass, cannot control a ball has a weak shot and has now lost his pace. We looked a very good team without him Saturday. Malky said of Gunnarson's second goal 14 passes with 9 players involved does anyone really think that would have happened with Earnie on the pitch

I done a post Sunday about this and everyone seemed to agree. Not the player he was and I think City should stop banking on old players coming back and doing the job.Yes well done to Mason and Gestede great to see their enthusiasm.

Earnie STILL plays his natural game, hanging on the shoulder of the last defender.
But he no longer has the pace to LEAVE that last defender. Earnshaw always needed
that extra half a yard to make up for his poor first touch. His pace has gone and so
has his threat.
He was dropping deeper to try and prove he could contribute like the other strikers
can. Sadly, he still came up short.
Legend? he certainly was... but in the lower divisions

Took the words right outta my mouth. Watching Joe Mason playing is exciting, he's talented, a good ball player,an intelligent runner; on the other hand watching Earnie frustrates me the majority of the time, yes he was a fine finisher in his younger days but has never really been what you would call a good footballer, he's lost his pace and actually looks a bit chubby and overweight, our style of pass..move, pass..move doesn't suit his style, a true Bluebird but unfortunately can't see him making any impact for us this season.

Could never understand the hysteria surrounding him given his lack of ability, Malky must have brought him back to appease fans but has not been afraid to drop him for the benefit of the team, however if we are a goal down with 10 minutes to go then his selfish attitude is ideal. The only thing that worries me is the clamour for another striker as I prefer the current system with 5 in midfield and the lone striker which turns in to about 5 when we attack we are creating more chances and playing better football

He's been pretty rubbish so far and I can't see how it will improve . It's seems to me it was signing to please the fans after selling Chopra . Earine 1st touch is utter shit, he's always off-side and with out his pace he's half the player he was , when we sold him.
Mind you he can do a job with 10 or 20 mins to go and he still as an eye for where the goal is.
