History lesson please

Sun Oct 23, 2011 8:46 am

I'm 21 years of age put pay £10 a month to the academy foundation and have been invited to a legends evening in November, the legends who will be there are Alan Harrington, Colin Baker, Bobby Woodruff, Gary Bell, Roger Gibbins, Phil Dwyer, David Giles, Carl Dale and Eddie May, now I know Phil Dwyer holds the record apperances, Carl Dale was a Striker and Eddie May manager, but I know very little about everyone, can you give me some memories of when you saw them play, or the types of players they were, it will be most appreciated thanks !!

I saw Woodruff play in the early 70s. He was a winger put had a long throw on him. I think he came from Palace when they were in the old 1st division.

The team of the 70s was perhaps the best we have ever had. Woodruff was a small cox as we had players like Toshack, Clark, King and Murray running the show. Excluding Toshack it was a fairly old team and I think Woodruff was in his 30s when he came to us. Toshack went to Liverpool, we just missed out on promotion and then we fought for the next 3 seasons a relegation battle with Woodruff on the wing.

I dont think he was about when we eventually went down but like most of our players then they moved onto other Welsh clubs. I think he ended up at Newport.

Just going slightly off topic I was very interested in Ali announcing the 95th birthday of the oldest ex-City player who is still alive yesterday.

Didn't catch the name but does anyone know who he was and when he played for us?
