McPhail today.

Sat Oct 22, 2011 5:38 pm

Thought he was fantastic, Played a huge part in our 451 formation suites him down to the ground. I've always been a fan of Mcphail and he proved today he can brake into this team and still play a part. Well done. MOTM for me.

He was MOTM. He was fantastic in the second half. Starting every move and keeping everything going. Why he came off i do not know, probably because he hasn't played in a while but he is a seasoned pro and didn't look tired so i think it was a mistake to bring him off because we missed him then for the rest of the game and conceded a few goals.

Great to have you back Macca!! :ayatollah:

We lost our shape when macca went off, and weirdly to say we actually didn't need a striker to come on! We were flying when whitts, Cowie, Conway & mason were pushing forward! Wouldn't work against alot of other teams - but Malky has showed what he/we can do with this team when an extra-ordinary situation has been presented to us. Earnie WILL come on and score goals this season, but this wasn't the time to use him.. :ayatollah:

Yeh I was wondering on that substitution, thought maybe he was just giving earny a run out and MM thought he might bag one (cause to be fair we were lining them up to be scored), but think it might have back-fired perhaps, but never mind.

I'm astonished at the comments about McPhail today. Sorry he did f**k all and was skinned at one point and Barnsley should have scored from his inability to defend.

Too slow over the hill and a disaster waiting to happen if he stays in the first XI and for the record I have lost a little faith in MM's judgement bringing him back.

He was class fair play. As Craig said we lost our shape after he went off

I am not a follow the crowd merchant and don't drink Vodka due to a medical condition so instead I say it as I see it. McPhail didn't score today (a stat which goes all the way back to March 2008!!!!!!!) he didn't set any of the goals up, he got skinned and did his usual lazy shift.

Whittingham controlled the midfield and was abley assisted by Gunnasson.

The McPhail myth absolutely baffles me, how the hell can posters think he was MOTM when Gunnasson scored a brace, the first of which was amazing and Whittingham was pulling the strings and setting up goals and creating other chances, but when you question their judgement they claim you are drunk?

Sorry I just don't get it.

Disagree, thought he was outstanding, not many people at the club can pick out the passes he does

What passes?????? The only one picking pass today was Whittingham yet somehow McPhail gets the credit; baffling

Couldnt disagree more sorry tony.
when our centre backs have it, there is very limited movement and we end up knocking aimless ball to miller or down the channels. When Macca plays he always come deap looking for work, and we seem to play at a higher tempo, he keeps the game very easy!

i agree milly.. he always finds the right areas to be when picking the ball up, does the most simple things to the best effect..
always seems to find space and time on the ball.. if he wasnt there today, gunnarsson would not have got forward as much..

cant see us using him every game, however i thought he did well today...

Thought the ball he put thru to mason was quality, when he got fouled

Thought he was superb, along with the rest of the midfield until he went off, but we were also playing the worse team to play at Cardiff this season! :ayatollah:

If he did (and I'm not sure he did) then he deserves MOTM for a pass that came to nothing? Sorry I'm absolutely baffled he gets so much praise when other players were streets ahead of him in end product, work rate, creativity and goal scoring stakes

Milly it is a game of opinions and that's yours.

Personally I think he brings absolutely nothing to the first XI and we will all end up regretting his inclusion eventually, just like we have for every season since he has been here.

Down the years you have consistently slagged off Mcphail
Clearly you have not got a clue about football
His holding role today was spot on and was a major factor in our dominance of the game
Mcphail his highly regarded by his fellow professionals and managers where ever he has played
He had a standing ovation when he went off today.......Enough said
P.S.
I'll say it again you have'nt got a clue about Football

That's one of the more surprising points of view on a game of football that i've seen for some time, either on this board or elsewhere.

I think the fact that he got a standing ovation when he was subbed and that MM was eulogising over his performance in the post match press conference gives creedence to the fact that you are very much in the minority on this one.

Personally, I thought it was one of the best and most incisive creative midfield performances that I've seen for CCFC in my many years of watching the club and certainly the best since Aaron Ramsey pulled on the blue shirt again last February.

As you say, it's all about opinions. :ayatollah:

Thought Mcphail played well today in a 4-5-1 system but is shit in a 4-4-2... no penetration going forward, no goals from midfield... slows the game down... but as I said in a 4-5-1 formation he showed he can do a job.. :ayatollah: :ayatollah:
