Some nice photos there Jon - Youve even got me in some of them

(I am one of the clubs photographers - and do Sports Photography in my spare time)

Do you mind me asking what type of Camera you are using?

Im always happy to pass on tips provided to me - if, of course, you dont mind:

1. If you are shooting with a Canon 50D (or similar) ISO should be 800 Max. Any more and it will be grainy.

2. Day matches. Shoot on Av mode. What you are looking for is a speed of more than 1/500th of a second for sharpness.

3. Keep Horizons straight. Get yourself a copy of Photoshop CS4 or similar. You will really notice the difference.

If your wondering I shoot with a Canon 1D Mark iv and a 300mm f2.8 lens. I also have a 40D with a 100-400 as a backup and for closer stuff.

Like I said, some great stuff there, and hope you dont mind me passing on a few ideas :ayatollah:

Paul.

All edited now ;)

Thanks for the tips Paul, I use a Sony DSC H50 (Cheap SLR wanna be). I normally just keep it in the 'Sports Mode' which shoots at about ISO 400 and the 15 times optical zoom is certainly needed from where I sit!

Jon

I would never have guessed you were using the Sony. You've got some really good images out of it :)

Next match you do (Day Match) try doing the first half in Aperture Priority and the 2nd half in Sports Mode. I am convinced you will notice the difference.

5 years ago I started off shooting the Celtic Crusaders away matches. I was turning up to the likes of Bramley and Featherstone with a basic Canon 350D and shooting in sports mode. I started watching what the pro's were doing and started to follow them. Before I knew it I was shooting much better images and getting more satisfaction out of it.

Several years on I am now signed up to an agency that provides images to both National and International Newspapers and have done Wembley 7 times and covered countless Internationals at varying sports. But I never forget my roots .......and glad to offer advice.......

Software that could help you on your way includes:

1) Photo Mechanic - (for captioning and viewing)
2) Photoshop CS4 - (for editing, cropping and retouching)
3) Noise Ninja - (to delete grain from pictures)

There are also some very good actions out there to add "punch" to your pictures. By that I mean enhance the green pitch. Reds look more colourful and pictures look less "washy".

For reasons of licencing I am not allowed to put my own images on here but feel free to have a look at my collection at www.actionplus.co.uk (just type keevil) into the search bit.
