O/T software development advice sought

Sun Oct 09, 2011 1:28 pm

I have had an idea for what I think would be a very good piece of software or possibly an app. I have only an idea for the software and no clue as to how to get it developed or marketed. I obviously cant say what it is but if any of you clever bods on here could offer me some advice then I would be very appreciative as I dont even know how to start. :ayatollah:

I'm pretty sure the creator of Angry Birds was in the same position as you and approached a development company with the idea - But they could just tell you to do one then steal your idea? I think it's down to copyright, etc. I'm genuinely not sure.

Or you could give it to me and I'll make it for you :D

I think I got the wrong idea about Angry Birds, but I'm pretty sure it was something similar.

Well, copyright / trademarking would be utterly irrelevant without knowing what it is you think is a clever idea. If prior art exists, makes any copyright claim irrelevant.

If you are approaching a software development or any other company then you can begin to protect yourself with the following -

Initially A non disclosure agreement signed by both parties. This will prevent the company passing on your idea to anyone else.

If things move forward then as the idea is yours the intellectual property (IP) rights should remain with you but to be clear get this agreed and signed by the developers. This should stop them developing the software and re-selling it themselves etc.

Before you approach developers I'd run your idea by a few trusted people to see what the general opinion is.

I'm no expert on this though.
