Mon Oct 03, 2011 7:21 pm

Posted a few weeks ago that Norfumbria police nabbed me for 34 in a 30....well theyve been in touch to offer a 4.5 hour awareness course for 85 pounds instead of 3pts and 60 quid fine.....Now will i take three point and let my company pay fine or take the course.....No Brainer really.

Why would your company pay when you were driving ?
I do a lot of driving in my job, If i get caught i pay the fine simples.

Because i work for a bus company and my union covers speeding fines :D

IMO You should take the course and avoid points on your licence at all costs, 3 more and your insurance starts going up, points usually come in groups too so beware. No licence and it becomes very difficult to work, 6 points and it becomes difficult to get a drfiving job.

That's hardly fair, is it?? YOU decided to travel at a level that exceeded the legal limit, so YOU should face the consequences of your actions

It'll cost you more (in travelling costs) but I'd take the 'classroom' option rather than 3 damaging points on your licence

You could always ask if they could allow you to attend locally in South Wales :ayatollah:

If you go 34 through a speed camera in a 30 zone I thought you would get away with it as it's 10% plus 1? So is 34 really breaking the law in a 30 zone?

Yes the 10% plus 1 is not legal it is just a guideline which I think some police forces use.

But it is not compulsory and other forces may well disregard it as it seems happens in this case.

On my driving course ( I was doing 36 in a 39 milwe zone. our instructor pointed out that there is not figure over the limit which you are allowed to do

1 mile over could still get you into trouble

Thanks for that, it's useful to know, I assumed as you could get away with going through speed cameras a few miles over the limit it was acceptable to do 34 in a 30 zone. Will have to start being extra cautious in future as I have gone a few miles over the limit with police around before and based on what you've said, they could easily have me.

Sven it would cost me f*cking loads more if i asked for it to be in S.Wales, because i live in Musselburgh, Scotland and Berwick,Northumbria is only an hours drive.....Thanx for the sentiment anyways :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: The speeding alternative

TBH aswell i think the main reason they booked me is because i was driving a bus in service at the time.........As a professional Driver i should know better.......

Re: The speeding alternative

Yes getting done on 34 is probably right on the edge. The reason behind it is the speedo in your car only needs to be accurate to within 10%. Therefore your speedo could be telling you that you are going at 30mph but in reality you are doing 33mph. So they allow for that.
If you are on a motorway then you are looking at 77mph if it's a static camera. If it's a copper following you though and monitoring your speed that way then the actual speed is more like 84mph. Simply because your speedo could be out by 10% in one direction whilst the coppers speedo could be 10% out in the other direction. Mental init...!!! :ayatollah:

Daya, WTF are you on?? Are you saying he should 'take the points' that could lead to him losing his job if he should accumulate more within the next couple of years??

My advice was simple: take the 'driver awareness course' or is it ok (in your considered opinion) for him to potentially lose his job??

Occasionally I agree with you. Usually I don't. This iccasion is certainly one of the latter!!
