First I start with the news that Gethin Jenkins is leaving his role as chief executive on October 22nd 2011, it may have come as a surprise to many City fans but for myself it has not come as that much of a shock, the reason I say this is because a little under one year ago I wrote an update on October 20th 2010 and stated that I was told back then that the Malaysians were planning on Vincent Tan's son U-Jiun becoming more and more involved on the everyday running of the club, I also stated on October 20th 2011, that it was my belief that Gethin Jenkins was on a year contract also. It will be pretty much a year to the day when I wrote that update that Gethin will be departing Cardiff City.
http://cardiffcityforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=24558 - here is the link to the update on October 20th 2010 and a passage of what I wrote then reads :
I have learned this week that Vincent Tan's son U-Jiun is being lined up to be the future Chief Executive and will become more and more involved with the running of the club on a day to day basis. Where will this leave Gethin Jenkins ?
I believe that Gethin could still have a role at the club and I understand that he has become heavily involved with the commercial deptartment since the redundancies of Suzanne Twamely and Kate Schmidt. At present it is my belief that Gethin has a 1 year contract. Will U-Jiun Tan become chief executive? who knows is the honest answer but at the time of writing that update those were the plans at the time and true to the word part of it has been bang on the money.
Last week I learned that Gethin Jenkins had been relieved of any transfer dealings with immediate effect.
I am told that it will be an outsider that takes over as chief executive and if that is true today then it would suggest that the plans to promote U-Jiun have been shelved. A name that may crop is that of Christian Purslow, he was managing director of Liverpool FC but stepped down on October 20th 2010. Purslow was interested in speaking with City officials over the chief executive job before Gethin was employed, I don't know if he is interested or even know what he is doing a year on, we will have to wait and see what Vincent Tan and TG decide.
Julian Jenkins, who had handed his notice in at Cardiff City to take on a similar role at London Saracens made a U-turn last week and decided to remain at the club and take up the role of Director of marketing. Julian has been instrumental in the new image Cardiff City have got amongst other football clubs and his hard work was pivotal in the club receiving 'Family club of the year' award last season. After 15 years of good service to the club keeping a person of this quality at the club is a good move by TG.
Dave Jones has registered his interest at taking the job at Bristol City, as I said last week he had told his agent to put his name out there as seeking work and wishes to get back in the game, a move to Bristol may suit him as the distance to travel could still allow him to live in the area of Cardiff (his house has not been sold yet).
I have been asked to pass on this message from the owners and manager of Ninian Park pub - Gareth and John would like to say a massive thank you to all City fans for the great support since the beginning of the season, they understand there have been a few comments about service and beer and they apologise if they haven't given some City fans 100%. They strive to giving their best and are addressing all issues mentioned.
The Mikey Dye memorial match takes place " this Sunday October 9th 2pm kick off at Bryntirion FC " We have the teams ready and everyone is geared up for the match.
There is a supporters bus that will run from CCS to Bryntirion FC leaving the stadium at 12.15pm, due to restrictions on parking I would advise at using the transport provided.
Jason Perry will be coaching from the sidelines on Sunday and going through formation and tactics with our players before kick off.
The Barry horns welsh supporters band will play before kick off and this is going to be a fantastic family day out, bring your family, children and friends to support the cause, let's do everyone proud in front of the television cameras from Sky, ITV and BBC.
