i joined in 83 at the age of 16,what a wake up call. when we came home on leave we would cause havoc watching the city away, and all the right wing nutters would say in the press these hollies need national service, if only they knew, did'nt mind us defending their liberty.

From a personal view, the average hooligan would never cut it in the Army.Too much self- discipline involved and most would not be mentally tough enough to let things fly over their head.
My personal opinion and sorry if it offends anyone. :ayatollah:

Beachley hasn`t changed much either.

You're quoting an army guy who was involved in football violence though... Fair play to army guys who do the job they love, I could never bring myself to care for a man involved in Uk army activities abroad though, City fan or not.

Everyone is different and I perfectly understand your rationale. :ayatollah:

you got to be crazy stupid or brave to join the basic army this day and age

i'm currently waiting on the raf and navy but both are making troops redundant

some
of them week one were not fit to compete in a senior football match let alone join the army
it's absoloutely shocking the kids who they let join

You need a basic fitness level,no more.
You get in and then get taken down and build up your levels to the required amount.
Simples. :ayatollah:

When you go to bed at night mate, it will generally be round about 4am over
there, so your lad will likely be fast asleep or on stag (therefore, pretty safe!)....
So dont be lying awake worrying yourself sick like I did, living on Nytol til i
sussed it out

And... no news really is good news ;)

Best of luck to your boy!!

My nephew got through his basic training and made it into the Welsh Guards. He is shite.
No go in him, cant run, weak as a kitten, no willpower, no drive, no nothing. Worries me
that rubbish like this little c**t can get passed out. For my sisters sake I asked my mate
to keep an eye on him, which he did. But in the end, the rest of the lads made his life hell
and he managed to fake a medical discharge, I dont think The Welsh Guards put up too
much of a fight to keep him. It is worrying that some proper shite gets through.. luckily
when they get to their unit, they will get sussed out
