Really proud of the boys last night - Match Ratings!!!

Thu Sep 29, 2011 3:39 am

Am feeling proud to be a Cardiff fan this morning and am just about to get the train back home to Preston, as per usual after every match and so I need something to do to pass the time...

Marshall - 9
Has always been an outstanding shot-stopper, as was shown with his fantastic one-one-one save in the 2nd half, but Marsh has stepped up his game this season under Malky and has greatly improved with his handling, which must inspire confidence into the back four. Fantastic assist for Miller's first goal, his distribution this season has been top class.

McNaughton - 8
Best full back in the division, without a doubt. Not the same attacking performance we've been seeing from Super Kev so far this season but consistently solid as always.

Hudson - 7
Not one of his better games and was frequently outjumped by Lambert to win the headers off goal kicks, but stuck to his task and started to win the battle when it mattered in the dying minutes of the game, when we were under pressure.

Gerrard - 8
Admittedly not his biggest fan prior to this season, I have been HUGELY impressed with Gerrard in the last two home games and have seen him provide real leadership and commitment from the back, slightly more so than our captain Hudson, maybe.

Blake - 8
Mr Versatily switched to left back and never let's anyone down. Shows the kind of passion we miss when he doesn't play and sweeps up and reads danger excellently. Good enough to be a starter week in week out now, in my opinion, maybe at centre half when Taylor's back.

Cowie - 8
Gets an 8 for sheer work-rate alone after what was maybe not the most polished attacking performance from Cowie against Southampton. Cowie epitomises everything that a side under the leadership of Malky stands for.

Kiss - 8
Was close to giving him a 9 due to the fact that he was everywhere on the pitch and never afraid to get stuck in. But after seeing him against Blackpool and Leicester in the cup, I know that this boy also has a touch of class when on the ball which he didn't show as such yesterday. Will be a vital player for us this season, there is FAR more to come.

Gunnarsson - 8
Another who loves to get stuck in and although I felt that he and Kiss were a little deep at times, was probably just operating as instructed by Malky and so did his job to great effect.

Whittingham - 7
One of his quieter and less influential games but adds that touch of quality to the side and always capable of opening up a defence or changing the game in an instant with a bit of magic.

Mason - 8
Doesn't always seem to take advantage of promising situations but the boy is still very young and will be an excellent player for us one day I feel. Covered a lot of ground and never stopped working, even when he tired towards the end.

Miller - 9 (man of the match)
The whispers were beginning to become louder about Miller not being up to the job amongst the fans from what I heard, and for that reason I'm delighted and relieved that Miller was tonight able to show us what he's all about - not only he does he work exceptionally hard but he knows where the net is. His touch is a bit heavy sometimes admittedly but HAVE FAITH in this guy, he is quality and WILL come good. Took his first goal today particularly well.
