I wouldn't normally recommend a Youtube converter as a lot of the songs from youtube are in low quality unless you happen to get a song from an official music channel, and even then though the songs can be in the low 360 to 480 quality ( which sounds muffled and medium wave like from the radio )... They are good though if you know the song you are converting is in any high defention format from 720p to 1080p.

I know you said free original poser, but nothing on the net music or movie wise is totally free. Even spotify that lets you stream countless song has you now restricted to commericals and a cap on a maximum number of times you can play 1 song in a month.

I would totally still say stick to torrents. Not legal of course, but I have been using them for years and have never had a warning from Virgin Media yet. They are simple to use and near enough every song you can think of is on a torrent in pretty damn good mp3 quality.

Torrents are also good for dvds, blu-ray, pc games, console games.
