Yes its amazing how many lives have been lost down the coal mines, major incidents like over 400 being killed in sengenydd in 1913 wiping out fathers and multiple sons showing the dangers of the job. The pay being poor as well makes me agree we would be better without it. Although we are more safety conscious now and would undertake more safety checks than previous generations and their greedy owners. Both aberfan and the above incident as well as multiple other incidents would have been prevented if owners had taken warnings given a couple of years earlier. We can only admire the bravery of all these miners and be grateful that we wasn't born a couple of generations earlier as our jobs and quality of life would have been so much worse.
