Bristol City's support is a joke

Sun Sep 11, 2011 4:25 pm

I always thought that the wurzels were a well supported club when i was growing up in the 80s and that they had huge potential. On my train journey home to Andover yesterday i starting to a group of Brighton fans who got on at Temple Meads. Had a good bit of banter with them and talked about lots of football stuff with support being the main topic. They had about 2000 at Trashton Gate in a crowd of 13,500. Not only that but the wurzel season ticket holders were able to bring along a friend for a fiver. I showed them the away support figures for the CCS and they couldnt believe how few they had taken to Cardiff despite restrictions.

they'll never be a big supported team because they share their city with rovers.

True but their catchment area is a similar size to Cardiff's and we only have one club. They also have big competition with rugby in those areas. Bristol will always have two small clubs until they merge. But that wont happen in my life time. I hope!! :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

in fairness they had better crowds than us when we were pulling 3-4000
they have got a massive chip on their shoulder
don't know why i have a soft spot for rovers (???) even tho we had plenty of run ins with them

I'm Bristol City, to call our support a joke is IMO a bit of a joke itself. We have been getting 12,13,000 crowds for 20 years. 20 years that have been basically shit.
I've been going 30+ years and I've seen us win 2 fm freight rover cups!! That's it!!
I think you will find that Cardiff's support ( even though now you are getting good crowds and fair play for that) was very poor only 10 years ago.
At the mo there are a LOT of very unhappy City fans, we haven't even scored ONE GOAL home this season in 4 home games.
90% want the manager out,and our crowd size is reflecting how we all feel.
Brighton bought 1700 on Saturday, if we were top like them we would have taken double that to there place.

As for our support at your ground, the OP said we had no restrictions????
Going to a service station to pick up a ticket that had to be pre booked IS a restriction, I like most others would like to come by train as in the past.
I for one won't ever travel on a bubble or under restrictions.
The sooner both of our support boycott our games at each others grounds the better.
That's the only way we can get back to how it should be and always was.

Yeah i pretty much agreed with everything you said there. It wasn't long ago we was pulling 12 13.000 and before that much less. And we do know the restrictions you had when we played you and i would of boycotted the game myself.

I work in Bedmister and I get a load of stick off the lads when Bristol City are doing better than us but lately its all gone silent. Quite a few plastics but you get them at all clubs. To be fair one guy who is a genuine supporter always talks about Bristol City and he said its the worst Bristol City team he has ever witnessed and blames calamity James for Saturdays defeat and a lot more besides. Big mistake signing him, he must be on a fair old wage and he doesn't give a toss by all accounts.

Signing David James was one of the biggest mistakes we have made in years. He will still pull off the odd wonder save but makes joke errors at other times.
Some of the things he does are just laughable. He's got no concern for my club,he's just seeing out his career.
The whole club is in limbo at the moment, waiting and waiting for the new ground to go ahead.
The new ground will give us a new lease of life though, so expect us to be in our REAL position in the football pyramid in 5 years time.
That's 12th in the Championship by the way!!

Not sure fella, rumour has it that it's about 20 grand a week.
I don't think the money is a big issue for him though as hes loaded anyway.
Just get the feeling we need to move on from him now, he's obviously not the future.

Say what you want but we made a massive improvement in the past 4 years with attendance.

At the end of the day Billy Wizz you stated that you been getting 12-13,000 for 20 years so you stated your fan base has never been on the rise, improving. So thats not really good every year you go into a new season you should be improving your attendace.

I love Bristol as a city, but have had a fair few runnings with them on matchdays. No love lost but no need to rip their support, we've had our share of shit years and some of them to be honest were great years.
