Strikers - big man / little man

Sat Sep 10, 2011 5:25 pm

Anyone else feel this is essential for us this year?

We're 6 games in and despite the running etc, i just don't see Earnie and Miller gelling - they're too similar!

Gestade wins balls in the air, can pass the ball and has a bit of pace and muscle about him. For me it's him plus one other.

Found it very frustrating today with the two little one's up top!

Totally agreed,we got 2 dwarves upfront and they keep pumping high balls to them,it really pissed me off today,i thought we were piss poor. Is malkys plan b to bring on Gestede with 10 mins left every game,Rudy must be really gutted he isnt in the starting line up.

I know he's trying to do his own thing with the team, and i like that, but it feels painfully obvious from the sidelines that it doesn't work with two little one's up top (both in their 30's!) - we need some height. Gestade has all the qualities to be a solid striker, just wish he had more game time.

Would rather see us play football than just play it long, Cardiff have done a lot in the past few years Gestede needs time to develop and can do both.

Been thinking the same for weeks - we need a taller striker but not Parkin.

Rudy fits the bill but we could do with some strength in depth in that area

I cannot understand our tactics. To constantly pump long balls up in the air is pointless because earnie and miller did not win one ball today and it was totally predictable. We need a target man up front such as rudy with earnie and miller running off him.I am dissapointed by Malky persisting with these silly tactics as they are clearly not working and beginning to frustrate the fans.

yeah - this earnie/miller thing just aint working...

anyone else as fed up as me with how bad our distribution from the back (especially marshall & gerrard) was today ......

i'd like to see gerrard and huds do the defending then pass to gunnarsson to move it thru the midfield.... we might create more chances - thought gunnarsson slotted back in nicely when he came on today....

Agree about the distribution mate. Out of the back five only Taylor can pass his way out of defence. I would start with Gestede and Earnshaw in the next game. The difference between Miller's energy for Scotland and energy for us is ridiculous and I am one of the fans who wants him to do really well and thought he was a good signing.

It's not so much the need for a tall guy although that would help but we need someone who can hold up the ball. Neither can

First game for me today as I've been out of the UK quite a bit with work and hols. I'm not sure it's that Earnie and Miller and too similar. On the evidence of todays game I think it's more a case of Miller being totally shite. I couldn't believe how bad he was. The only comparison I have is the WHU game which I watched in a bar in Portugal. That day when he scored in injury time my first reaction was, f*ck me I thought he'd been subbed, didn't realize he was still on the pitch. I watched him in particular today and his touch was aweful (he almost f*cked up in the build up to our 2nd goal and got lucky), movement non existent, passing was shocking and finishing? OK he only had one sniff in the first half but should have buried it. IMHO next starting 11 should be more or less the 11 who were on the pitch at the end of the game. We desperately need a striker with some physical presence. It might be Rudi. Who knows but he needs a run.

earnie runs the same channels as miller, and when earnie's made the run you can almost see miller thinking .... now where do I go ?

too similar, I've liked mason as well, so if rudy isnt quite ready, then give Joe a go ....

We didn't play good football today so the 2 strikers were no good. WHen we do play good flowing football both little men should be fine.

I agree to some extent that the long balls up to the strikers needs to be varied on occasions, a couple of times miller pulled slightly wide to the left from goal kicks and received it a few occasions, also there is the fact that we won a lot of second balls today, i.e. their defenders winning the headers, our midfielders picking it up, so there is some method to the long ball system from goal kicks!! I think the problem today that the build up from winning the second ball was too slow, we need to be sharper with the passing and movement off the ball

I do however feel, that we would have drawn that game last year, for a couple of reasons, players mentality (sulking/whingeing when things don't go perfect), work ethic (11 players today worked as hard as possible for the length of time they were on the pitch, Last Season I wonder how many you could have put on the list, 2-3!!?????)

not sure what others feel? :?

Don't get me wrong I would love to see us playing one/two touch football from Marshall through the midfield and creating chances, but we need to be realistic it is not going happen every time!
