" DAVE JONES REGRETS ' PRICKLY ' RELATIONSHIP "

With the media during his time at CCFC

http://www.skysports.com/tv_show/story/ ... 62,00.html

Dave Jones regrets the prickly relationship he had with the media during his time at Cardiff City.

The former Bluebirds manager, who left the Welsh club in the summer, had a number of run-ins with local reporters during his six years in charge and refused to speak to Media Wales journalists for much of his tenure.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday he revealed the cause of their disagreements, but accepted he should have done more to improve his rapport with Cardiff's football writers.

Jones said: "Where did it originally come from? They character assassinated Stephen McPhailin a game against Swansea and continued to do that.

"I wasn't happy with that and actually spoke to one of the reporters and asked him why - and because they are supporters as well as reporters it's very difficult to give an unbiased opinion. There's a boy who's fighting cancer and I wasn't happy with the character assassination.

"It didn't matter about me because you get that all the time, but somewhere along the line we lost touch with each other and as long as I kept getting results it was always going to be about results.

"But when one of them says his ambition is to get me out of my job then why should I speak to them?

"I never had a problem with any of the nationals and I should have been bigger and probably repaired some of the damage, but once it's done it's very hard to go back. It does upset you when things are said and I don't think they went about it in the right way.

"If you're talking about regrets then yes, maybe I should have repaired that rapport with them, but sometimes you get stubborn as well."

Falling short

Jones also admitted he regretted his failure to earn Cardiff promotion to the Premier League.

He nurtured a number of promising footballers during his six years in charge, but after falling short in the promotion race - they missed out in the play-offs in each of the last two seasons - many of those players were sold.

And while Jones is proud of what he achieved under those circumstances, he remains frustrated that they couldn't make it to the next level.

"You always have regrets in football," he said.

"Mine's not being able to go that one step and give them what everybody wanted, which was the Premier League.

"You can look for many excuses, you can look for the reasons why it didn't happen and I'm pretty comfortable with the time I had.

"I had six good years, I was the fourth longest serving [manager in English football], which is crazy because six years isn't a great deal of time - certainly for what Cardiff wanted to do.

"We were always servicing debt. If they'd kept the players we brought through - Roger Johnson, Cameron Jerome Aaron Ramsey and all these players - there were so fantastic players, but each year we had to sell.

"I knew the circumstances I was going into at Cardiff, that they were always going to have to sell to survive. But you sell your best players and for some reason you should be better the next season?

"To be fair, with the help of some fantastic staff, we did a really good job there and I'm very proud of what I achieved.

"My only regret is I couldn't take them that one step. People have asked me: 'Why didn't it happen?' I've looked at every reason and every excuse and we just fell short.

"We just weren't good enough to achieve it."

I watched the interview and for me it just about summed the guy up as when he is asked what started the fallout with the local press he basically bullshitted.

He blames the local press for an alledged act of character assassination against Steve McPhail after he got sent off twice in 6 weeks against the jacks at the Liberty. He went on to embellish this statement with Steve McPhail having his health problems and these guys are commiting character assasination.

Well for the record Steve McPhail was sent off twice against the Jacks in the autumn of season 2008-2009 and sadly he had his health scare a full 12 months later. He also went on to say it's funny that when he was in the job he didn't get money to spend and as soon as a new guy comes in he gets money. It is a fact that our club record signing took place whilst he was manager at the club but he seems to have forgotten about that.

No one can doubt that overall he did a good job at the club but also he repeatedly failed to get us over the line to PL promotion. That's the reason time run out for him football is a results game and in the final analysis his results were just not good enough.

Did he actually say that?

He left us 16 players (before Chopra was sold) and a few kids that had got contracts. What did he expect the club to do? Get 5 loan players in and think "there you go 21 players that'll do ya"

We signed 6 free transfers and 3 players that total less than two million pound.

Malky Spend 11-12: ~ £2,000,000 (8 players)
Dave Jones spend 09-10: £5,250,750 (6 players)

Don't see how he can play that card.

Indeed McPhail was not popular after the second sending off against the Jacks. It was a really stupid moment for him and indeed McPhail knew that himself. Funny enough we picked up after that game and it co-incided with Jones being forced to drop McPhail through suspension.

Now if I recall right McPhail was diagnosed with cancer a year later. He had managed to win the crowd back over at the same time so the illness could not have come at a worse time. Well this sort of illness makes its a worse time regardless o fyour situation but you know what I mean.

So for Jones to use the cancer as a reason to have a go at the media is basically bollocks.

I couldn't believe it when he said it and maybe on planet DJ that's how he remembers it but the reality is it's not the truth as just another way of the miserable b*stard blaming other people for his own short comings.

It's like him saying that he never said he didn't like local derbies, as a player or a manager, then given the big people in this part of the world are buffoons. The only buffoon is him and anyone who really listened closely to what he said today would realise it. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Very silly think for him to say, he was backed and for me was backed with more money last season than MM this all in all. And DJ had a far superior starting squad to work with.

If Media Wales had two pennies to rub together they should sue the fat scouse c*nt for defamation and libel. Sadly they don't so they won't.

And they should take to court all those media organisations who allow the pr*ck to propagate his lies in public.

Hope his next sh*t is a hedgehog holding a couple of hand grenades with the pins pulled out.

said this many times before, i reckon if we kept rambo we would have just made it last year. those margins are very fine, as he just said at one point Wenger agreed for him to stay here until the end of the season.... :(
