Apart from Top Cats shop giving the best odds in the area, there is nothing there anymore apart from charity shops, gold buyers and cheap shops. I feel for the small amount of good coffee shop and retailers who have to mingle which the other tosh.

Gone downhill BIG STYLE

Your spot on MG :ayatollah: We seem to have 3 or 4 shops that do the same thing, and another 3 or 4 shops which have closed and are empty.

It was shocking Top Cat, I did poke my head-in to see if you were working but couldn't see you mate.

City Road went downhill first and now Albany Road is following very quickly.

I managed Superdrug on AR about 15 years ago, dodgey area. My parents lived on Alfred St, just down the road, in the 60's.

Born in Donald St, grew up in Arabella St and bought a house in Inverness Place, Roath boy through and through one of the reasons I moved 5 years ago was the state of the area and it is getting worse every time I visit, mum still lives in Arabella St.

I have worked in many countries since leaving Cardiff but one abiding memory remains; I have never tasted better ice cream than was sold at Sayers ice cream shop on Wellfield Road. Truly delicious.

Re: Albany Road

Same happened to Cowbridge road though. Back when I was a kid - it wasn't too bad. Working class but ok all the same.

These days, it's gone bad.

I'm Canton born and bred, lived there all my life but moved to the Culver area a few years ago. I love Canton but I worry for my parents who live just off Cowbridge road now when they're walking the dog etc.

It's gone really rough. I remember Albany Road as being a nice area. Takeaway city now though.

Starbucks was a big customer attraction to Wellfield Rd and I can see with that closing it had a knock-on effect with the other traders on the street.

WTF !!! they're closing down starbucks on wellfield road ahh well sleeping in college for me this year  starbucks open everywhere but the one i actually need closes down  not to sound selfish in anyway

Presumably not in Italy?

Naturally, there are outstanding ice cream parlours all over Italy. One that has developed into a chain, in Italy and some international locations, but maintaining very high standards is Grom:

I recommend a two scoop cone with Crema come una volta and Caffè.
